ST. JOSEPH PARISH

Fr Jim’s Jottings Our Parish Mission was an enriching event for all of us. Thanks to our Jubilee committee for arranging this highlight of our Jubilee Year. Thanks to many of you who baked desserts for the social each evening. And thanks to Fr Bill Cieslak for being with us and sharing his faith. As he mentioned, our parish has been abundantly blessed for 150 years by our gracious

and loving God. We now bear the challenge of building on our past by our commitment to the future of the parish. With those thoughts, I want to announce that next weekend we will be inviting you to join in our “Stewardship of Time and Talent” effort. As we have done for the past couple of years, you will be invited to consider offering your time and talent to some of our parish needs. A member of our Stewardship Committee will speak with us at the end of each Mass about how to do that. Everyone will receive a brochure listing areas of need along with a volunteer sheet for you to fill out. You’ll be asked to take the brochure home but bring the volunteer sheet back the following week at one of our Masses. Friends, we have many good things going on at St Joe’s. However, one responsibility I struggle with is how to get more parishioners involved and engaged further in their faith. There is a true axiom: “the more you give, the more you receive”. For our faith to be strong, we need to do more than just attend Mass. To be a member of St Joe’s means more than Sunday Mass. Every parishioner should be willing to commit some of their time to one or more of our parish needs. Thanks to so many who are already involved in the parish. This is a special call to those who think about volunteering but don’t get around to it. We need you! And you need to share some of your time and talent!

All Saints’ Day (Tuesday) November 1st is the Feast of All Saints. For us Catholics it is a holy day of obligation. We honor all the men and women who are with the Lord in heaven by celebrating Mass that day. Our Masses on Tuesday will be at 12:05pm and 6:30pm.

All Souls’ Day Commemoration November 2nd is traditionally All Souls Day. On that day we pray for our loved ones who have died, asking our Lord to forgive any of their sins and welcome them to heaven. If you want to celebrate Mass that day, St Mary’s will have 12:05pm Mass. We will move our celebration of All Souls Day to the weekend of Nov 5/6. There will be two banners hanging in our sanctuary with the names of parishioners who died this past year. All of us are invited to pray for any other loved ones who have died and commend them to God’s mercy.

Parking for Weekend Masses Soon you will see on our West parking lot that we’ve designated 10 extra parking spaces for “people with limited mobility”. We want to help those who are older and have difficulty walking distances to get to church. These are not official handicap spaces, but spaces that help make it easier for some to park closer to church. When the signs are in place, please respect them. Thanks!

WELCOME… We welcome into the St. Joseph Community through Baptism…….

ST. JOSEPH PARISH

The Human Thread There continues to be a campaign that addresses the issue of wages for workers manufacturing the clothing which certain stores sell. We’ve all heard stories of how workers in foreign countries have worked for pennies in sweat shops to produce our clothing. Certain retailers, including Macy’s and Kohl’s, have been asked to address the wages at the sites where these clothes are made. However, they have rejected calls regarding this issue. Did you know who gets the money from your typical $10 T-shirt? $5 – retail/clothing shop / $2.25 – label/brand / $1.75 – materials and production costs / $.70 – taxes and distribution / $.27 – cotton farmer / & $.03 – workers’ wages. If you are in agreement with the rationale for this campaign, your contribution is easy! Simply sign each of the two postcards to Macy’s and Kohl’s, attach a 34 cent stamp, and mail. These postcards are available in a box in the back of church. Thank you for your efforts.

Want to Make a Mission Trip? The Fox Valley Mission Group from Kaukauna is planning a mission trip to Puerto Cabezas. It is on the northeast coast of Nicaragua. We'll be working on a school roof and ceilings, restrooms and in the Catholic Church, also building beds and night stands for a retreat center for married couples. We’ll be staying and eating with the Carmelita Sisters. If interested or have questions call Dave or Mary Arnoldussen at (920) 766-3015. Thanks

Calendar Raffle Thanks to many of you who picked up your calendar raffle envelope in the Great Hall. If you haven’t done so yet, the envelopes will be there for the next few weeks. This raffle is our most successful fundraiser. Last year we made over $18,000 because of your efforts at buying/selling those calendars. As you know, our calendar raffle makes for an easy Christmas gift for friends. If you’ve been lucky enough to win, you know the joy of opening the mail and finding a check of $25 made out to you!!! Let’s all make a strong effort to be as successful as we were last year.
