MEMBER SPOTLIGHTChevalier Randy Attaway KSJ

Our featured member, Randy Attaway, joined the Sovereign Order March 15, 2014. Like many of our outstanding members Randy has quite a diverse background:

Randy was born in California, but raised in the state of Washington. At 19, Randy returned to his birth-state and attended College of the Sequoias in the Central Valley and San Jose City College completing his apprenticeship for the Plumbers and Pipefitters

Union. In 1978 Randy built his home in Los Gatos and began his volunteering and community service where he has served the community for well over 3 decades!

Randy has been in the plumbing and mechanical construction industry for over 48 years. He began as a plumber, studied engineering and worked into being a project manager with ever increasingly responsibilities on larger projects which culminated into his current business at AGC Inc. where he is President and CEO.

Randy’s volunteering and civic responsibilities are beyond commendable and represents precisely what Knights and Dames do! Randy has given his time to serve in Board capacities to Ming Quong Children’s Society, Cerebral Palsy Foundation and KCAT (Public Television). He’s served on the County of Santa Clara Emergency Preparedness Committee, Santa Clara County Housing and Community Development Board and the Valley Transportation Authority Advisory Committee. Most of us would think that was enough while also working full time! Randy has also been the Mayor of Los Gatos, and served on the following Los Gatos Town Committees; Historical Preservation Committee, Planning Commission, Community Service Commission, Earthquake Seismic Commission, Conceptual Development Advisory Committee, Financial Advisory Committee, Chair for the West Valley Sanitation District and Chair of the Bay Area Air Quality Management District. Randy is a doer, a mover and a shaker and leads by example.

Randy joined the Knights due to the encouragement of some members that he knows, respects and with whom shares similar values. He has been volunteering all his life and enjoys helping and giving to others less fortunate. Being part of the Knights an organization that believes in doing good for others, brings joy to Randy and his wife, Sara. We are so proud to have Randy play an active role with our St. Joseph Commandery!

ST. JOSEPH MEMBER CELEBRATED!On Tuesday, October 13 our very own Chevalier Christopher Citti KGSJ was inducted into the prestigious Wall of Fame at the Silicon Valley Capital Club. The induction ceremony and reception was well attended by business and community leaders, family members, friends and fans of Chris!

The Wall of Fame at Silicon Valley Capital Club is for personal and professional lifetime achievements

and extensive contributions as a dedicated business and community leader.

The Silicon Valley Capital Club is a business, social and dining club with over 800 active members who help promote business in Silicon Valley and contribute to the community in such areas as arts, education and medicine.

As noted in a previous KOSJ Member Spotlight, Christopher is very active in the community and gives generously of his time and talents. Apparently he is carrying on the family tradition of giving back, as does his mother, Dame Gloria Citti DSJ.

Chris’ sister, brother and even a previous Wall of Fame recipient all had words of appreciation and gratitude; obviously also proud of Chris and his accomplishments.

Way to represent! Congrats, Christopher Citti!

POETRY WRITINGS OF Chevalier Peter Verbica KSJThe Stayers © 2014 by Peter Verbica a “tribute to those who add to the stream of life”

It's always the scene of the dead girl they drag out of the river, that they use to try to suck you in: to spend the next two hours, gold coins from the safety deposit box of your life. [Hollywood]

I can't clap for the rum-runners, drifters, hitchers, pimps, and grifters. I won’t romance the car-jackers, hobos, and needle-sharers: I've met all of them, face-to-face. Let them be: to deliberate, jack-jawed and jittery, over stolen shopping carts along the aqua ducts and behind grocery stores. To hell with the gang-bangers, spray painters, and window breakers. I won't glamorize any Bonnie or Clyde: the Tellers are my heroes, shaking after a hold-up: their hearts beating like wild birds in bone cages.

This is the part left out of the movie.

Here's the real deal: It is the standers and the stayers and the hanger-in-there’s who shed the sweat which gets work done. They are the women who tie the knots in the nets. They are the men with sunburnt faces who kill the fish. They are the teens who pick the cots and watch over the babies. They are the firemen who lay down the blankets and carefully close the lamp-less eyes. They are the fathers and the farmers who feed their families. They sit at the table with their children and kneel in church.  They are the board shapers, the weight lifters, re-bar benders, fence fixers, ropers, and sock menders. They take up the shovels, dig the ditches, and set the pipes. They are the planters of orange groves, champagne grapes and walnut orchards. They shuck the corn, chop the staves  and tow the trucks.

Praise the builders and patent-writers, the homesteaders and horse-shoers.  Praise the preachers who spill wine and break bread.  I thank the raisers. I thank the gardeners.  I thank the busboys and the bakers.

This is my open letter to each one who lives and dies on his piece of ground.

They are the title-holders, the defenders, and the formers. They build temple walls from friendships which stand fast against the void. Hand-in-hand, arm-in-arm, shoulder-to-shoulder, they shine like lights on a ladder against darkness and oblivion. They buttress against the sea. They stare down the barrel and hold the line.

Too many toasts are given to the force which gnaws at the earth and destroys the edges of what is into an ocean of what isn't.  Sing loudly and off-key to those who suture the bellies, tend the hearth, and stir the stew.

God, forever bless those who make the beds and give us a resting place we can call home.
