FOURTH SUNDAY OF EASTER EVERYDAY HEROES We hear today how the Jews of Antioch rejected the preaching of Paul and Barnabas, who left to take their message elsewhere. The apostles felt compelled by their experiences of the risen Jesus to take his Good News as far as possible. Their intense love of the Lord and their desire to do God’s will sent them on journeys throughout Mediterranean lands. They were jeered at, flogged, imprisoned, and shipwrecked. Some, including Peter and Paul, were martyred. “That was then,” you might say “and this is now. I won’t ever be martyred.” But martyrdom is not necessarily physical death; the word means “to witness.” Think of the elderly man caring for his wife with Alzheimer’s, the parents of an autistic child, the single mother whose teenage son is disabled. These are witnesses to the value of another’s good above their own. They lay down their life daily for someone else. This kind of martyrdom is intended to be a thread through all our lives. We choose whether our kindness, good words, and thoughtful deeds reflect God’s love to others. God does not demand this, but we can demand it of ourselves. From all that God gives us, let us give back in kind.

CUARTO DOMINGO DE PASCUA HÉROES DE TODOS LOS DÍAS En la primera lectura de hoy los judíos de Antioquía recha-zan la prédica de Pablo y Bernabé, y los dos apóstoles se van a llevar su mensaje a otros lugares. Ellos se alejan del pueblo de la Antigua Alianza, sus compatriotas judíos, para invitar a los paganos del resto del mundo a que vengan a formar parte del pueblo de la Nueva Alianza. Éste es un momento crucial para los primeros cristianos. Después de sus experiencias con Jesús resucitado, los apóstoles se sintieron obligados a llevar la Buena Nueva de su Maestro tan lejos como les fuera posible. El intenso amor por su Señor y su deseo de hacer la voluntad de Dios los llevaría por las tierras en las riberas del Mediterráneo. Sufrieron burlas, azotes, maldiciones, encarcelamientos y naufragios. Algunos, incluso Pedro y Pablo, murieron mártires. Pudieras decir: “Eso fue entonces, pero hoy es otra cosa. Nunca moriré mártir”. Puede que no, pero el martirio no se trata necesariamente de una muerte física; la raíz de la palabra significa “dar testimonio”. Holy Family Students Go on a Pilgrimage to The Adoration Chapel and the Crypt of the Saints

On April 30th, 2019, Holy Family Catholic School’s 7th and 8th grade students boarded a bus and took a pilgrimage to the Our Lady, Mother of the Eucharist, Perpetual Adoration Chapel and the Crypt of the Saints on the Visitation Catholic Church campus in Elmhurst. When the students arrived, they were welcomed by Richard Montalbano, the Crypt of the Saints’ curator, who gave the students a tour and spoke to them about the saints, “the power of prayer,” and many miraculous stories- some of which were his own. The students viewed over 700 statues, icons, relics, and a miniature replica of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem, completely handmade out of thousands of pieces of olive wood from the Holy Land. During their Religion classes at Holy Family, the students had been taught about the Real Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist. Therefore, they were prepared when they proceeded to the Adoration Chapel with Deacon Jim Eaker where they spent some time adoring Our Lord and praying to Our Lady and the Saints for their inter-cession. Their pilgrimage continued with Deacon Jim’s talk about prayer and one’s relationship with the Lord, a tour of Visitation Church, and a Communion Service. After their visit, the students commented on how peaceful the Crypt and the Chapel were and asked, “Can we stay here all day?” They also said that they cannot wait to return to these spiritually uplifting places with their family and friends. The Adoration Chapel and Crypt of the Saints is located at 799 S. York Road in Elmhurst. The Adoration Chapel is open 7 days a week and 24 hours a day. The Crypt of the Saints is open on Sundays from 9 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

Baptisms: Pre-baptism Class is required before your date will be set. Please register two to three months in advance.

Weddings: Spiritual Preparation begins at least SIX months in advance. Do not make your reservations until you have met with the pastor.

Sacrament of the Sick: First Friday of the month at 7:30 am.

Communion Visits: Call the Parish Office.
