Saint Joseph Church Mission Statement
We, the people of Saint Joseph Church, by the grace of God, born again in the waters of Baptism, seek to create a
community where our mutual faith in Jesus as Lord and Savior, encourages us to continue growing as disciples. We believe that discipleship is a way of life. We strive to show
that we are committed disciples, eager to welcome the stranger, feed the hungry, shelter the homeless, and comfort the bereaved. Inspired by God’s word and nourished by the Eucharist, we pledge ourselves to active discipleship all for
God’s greater glory and honor.

Class Spotlight First Grade
Mrs. Pat Capizzi & Ms. Tara Reilly
April has been an exciting month at St. Joseph Academy. We were fortunate to have some wonderful pro-grams for the children. On April 29, 2016, children’s author, Susan Rochester Zucconi, visited first grade, as well as other classes in the school. She read her books, “Crumby’s Carnival and Magic Show” and “The Crumbgrabbers Meet The Honeylou Kids.” In grades 4-8, she discussed her ex-periences about becoming an author. The children were thrilled to have her visit and autograph books that they had purchased. This visit was made possible by Ms. Natalie Ber-gamini of the Home School Association and a first grade class parent.
Background of Susan Rochester Zucconi As a little girl in Kindergarten class at Emma L. Arleth Ele-mentary School, Susan Rochester Zucconi had big dreams. Her dreams continued as she attended Emma L. Arleth Ele-mentary School through 6th grade. One of those big dreams was to be an author. She would spend days writing down her thoughts and feelings in her room in her home in Sayre-ville, NJ. While growing up as a teenager, she wrote po-ems which expressed her many moods and thoughts of a woman growing up, learning and experiencing life. Susan Rochester Zucconi is a children's book au-thor. She is a lifetime resident of New Jersey. Besides be-ing a children's author, she also works at Herbertsville Ele-mentary School. Susan has appeared at events where she gets to meet people and answer questions for them about being an author as well as participating in other events such Author Meet and Greets, Bookstore Events, Girl Scout Ca-reer Day, and Elementary School events. Susan says "Children are our future" so she spends time getting to know children, reading to them, and making a lasting impression on them. Some of her events include Girl Scouts on Career Day, Children's Hospices in the Tri-State area, and various Elementary schools throughout NJ including the one she attended as a child. Susan has been recognized in local NJ newspapers and on local channel News 12.

THE FULLNESS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT The church wakes up to an amazing message this morn-ing. Look around and see who has been called. Listen to the voices of those who proclaim Jesus is Lord. You’ll find no race of people left out; you’ll find no language on earth unfit to proclaim the glory of God. We call Pentecost Sunday the “birthday of the church.” In many ways, the church is still being born. Only when we all know the peace Jesus offered in today’s Gospel will we really know the fullness of the Holy Spirit. St. Paul assures us in today’s second reading that “all of us have been given to drink of the one Spirit.” When we look around us in the church we should see everyone. But we don’t. Not yet. What is holding us back from fully embracing the one Body of Christ? When will we see our differences as manifestations of the same Holy Spirit? Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
TODAY’S READINGS First Reading — Filled with the Holy Spirit, the apostles begin to speak in tongues (Acts 2:1-11). Psalm — Lord, send out your Spirit, and renew the face of the earth (Psalm 104). Second Reading — In one Spirit we are baptized into one body and given to drink of one Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:3b-7, 12-13) or Romans 8:8-17. Gospel -Jesus Christ appears to the disciples and sends them on their mission with the power to forgive or retain sins through the Holy Spirit (John 20:19-23) or John 14:15-16, 23b-26.

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION “Order” and “presbyter” are not everyday words in our vocabulary, since we think of order as a quality of life rather than a collective noun, and “priest” usually does just fine in everyday conversation. Yet each word has deep roots in our tradition. At an ordination we select men for service to the community. Ordo is a Latin word drawn not from pagan religious life but from Imperial Rome. It meant a distinct body standing apart from the people, such as a body of peo-ple responsible for civil governance, senators for example. Think of the selectmen or board of governors in your civic home, and you will get the idea. The church borrowed the term to describe the place of certain people within the peo-ple of God, thus the “order of deacons,” “the order of pres-byters,” and even “the order of virgins, catechumens, wid-ows, neophytes, penitents,” and so on, as distinct groups within the church. Just as ancient Rome had various uniforms for the ranks and stations in civil life, so too did certain garments give clues to membership in an “order” in the church. So, our tradition favors the idea of an ordination liturgy not as re-ceiving something so much as being received. This is clearly expressed in the liturgy. The “kiss of peace” is given only by the ordaining bishop and priests to the newly “ordained,” not by the faithful, the deacons, or the concele-brating bishops who are present. —Rev. James Field, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
—Fray Gilberto Cavazos-Glz, OFM, Copyright © J. Refrain (2x each time) Come, O come and fill this temple, Fill this temple, with the glory of the Lord. Verse 1: There's a place of unity, a place for fellowship. There's a place where God's people come to gather. Where the Spirit of the Lord is sensed, And binds our hearts as one, and we're filled afresh with Holy Power.
Verse 2: So we wait with open arms, we're hungry for Your touch, And we worship now the name of Jesus. Forgive us, Lord, for grieving You, and pour our hearts anew with fire and zeal of Pentecost.
