MISSION STATEMENT Rooted in Catholic faith, and committed to academic excellence, St. Joseph Catholic School

develops personal responsibility, character, service, and leadership.

Welcome Back It was so good to see our families on Thursday. Our children are definitely excited about returning to school and seeing all of their friends again. We are also pleased to welcoming many new families this year. Please introduce yourself and assist these families, as they become a part of our school community. All forms that were in the Back to School envelopes are to be returned to your child’s homeroom teacher.

Morning Arrival

You are welcome to walk your child to the classroom on the first day of school. If you plan to park and walk onto the campus, please use the North Parking Lot (Parish Center side of the campus). All children need to be in their classrooms by 8:00 am. Please see the attached detail information regarding arrival and dismissal. For those who plan to drop their children off at the main gate: The Main Gate will open at 7:35 am. Students may then enter the gate area. Children will begin going to their classrooms at 7:45 am. Please remember to allow enough time for your child to walk to class and be there by 8:00am. Please make every effort to have your child arrive on time to school each day. This teaches your child courtesy and respect for others. When a student is late, the child who needs to get organized for the school day disrupts the class that is already in session.

Lunch & Snacks Students may bring their lunch to school or order a hot lunch by using the weekly lunch menu. Menus were in the Back to School envelope, as well as attached to this newsletter.

• One hot lunch order form is required per child. Hot lunches must be ordered before 8:15 am by having your child return the menu form to the homeroom teacher.

• Students who bring their lunch need to bring utensils (spoon or fork) and a paper towel or napkin to use during lunch. For safety, food cannot be heated in the lunchroom.

• Please do not bring snack or lunch items in glass containers or glass jars. • Do not send carbonated sodas for snack or lunch. • Since we have a hot lunch program, food may not be delivered by outside vendors. • If your child forgets to bring a lunch, a hot lunch will be ordered and charged for the

day. • If you ordered hot lunch and your child is absent, please call or email the school office

to cancel the lunch order before 8:15 am. We cannot issue a refund after 8:15. .

End-of-Day Dismissal Please review the PikMyKid App information in your Back to School Envelope. Please download the app and use the provided hangtag. Stop at the designated Stop and Announce sign to indicate you are in the carline. Please do not announce before your reach the sign. We will need to be patient during dismissal on the first day as new families become familiar with the procedures. Please stop before the gate for school staff to verify your line order and announce your arrival for your child.

Please do not ring the bell at the gate from 2:30 – 3:15. All staff is securing the campus to prepare for and conduct dismissal procedures. We appreciate your understanding as we make every effort to keep our children safe at all times.

Do you need to delegate pick up for your child? Please see the attached delegation notes.

Do not have a hangtag for delegation? Please direct the person you have delegated for pickup to write your child’s number in large print on a piece of paper to show the staff person verifying pickup.

Need an additional hangtag? Additional hangtags will be sent home with each child on Monday.

First School Mass – August 15 – Feast of the Assumption

Our first school Mass is scheduled for 8:00 am on Thursday, August 15th. Parents and guardians are welcome to join us. Please note there are new safety procedures, from the Diocese of Venice, that we have to follow. We appreciate your understanding as we implement these changes.

On Mass days, children go directly to church for the 8:00 am Mass. They have practiced with their teachers, and know where they are to sit with their homeroom teacher. All students need to be in church by 8:00 am.

At 8:00, ALL doors to the church will be locked. They will remain locked during the Mass. (Doors can only be opened from the inside in case of an emergency) Please help us have all children and parents in church before the beginning of Mass. IF your child is late, you will need to bring your child to the north or south main entrance door (26th Street entrances). Windows are in these doors, and a staff member will open the door for you. We appreciate your help and support.

Students in Grades 3 through 8 (who sang in the choir last year) are invited to sing in the choir on August 15th. Practice will be after school on Tuesday, August 14th from 3:00 – 4:00 pm. Following practice, students may be picked up on the north side of the campus at the gate behind the church (Parish Center side of the building).

On August 15th, at 7:30 am choir students will meet in the Church choir room to prepare for the Mass.

Thank You to All of Our Families Using the Box Tops App!

Please visit our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/SJCSBradenton to see the post from Carlee Colonesso regarding the new Box Tops program. Did you know you could ask relatives and friends to support SJCS by downloading the App and scanning their Grocery Store or Warehouse Store Receipt into the app after they shop? We were pleasantly surprised to see how many parent have started using the app already. It is very user friendly, runs smoothly, and even shows you products to look for when you are in store. Not sure if you have the app? You can check to see if you have it or

download at the Google Play Store HERE: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.generalmills.btfe or at the Apple Store HERE: https://apps.apple.com/app/apple-store/id1150038564

Sports News COACHES NEEDED

Krys Kolbe is our PE Teacher and Athletic Director. She coordinates and supports all of our league games and competitions. Obviously, she cannot do this alone, and has enjoyed the assistance of our many parent volunteers through the years. Parents who volunteer, not only make a difference in the life of their child, but they have a positive impact on the lives of many of our children.

We are in need of three volunteer coaches for this year: • Cross Country Coach from the middle of August through December • Flag Football Coach from the beginning of school through August 28. • Boys Basketball from October 28 to the end of December.

This is a wonderful way to support our students and fulfill all of your volunteer hours for the year.

Flag Football begins on Wednesday, August 14

Girls Volleyball begins on Tuesday, August 13.

Please contact Coach Kolbe for more information: [email protected]
