Around the Parish

BLOOD DRIVE Today after all Masses we will be taking the names of anyone who would like to sign up to give Blood at our Parish Blood Drive on Saturday January 31st.

When you give Blood you actually save the lives of 3 people. Most Blood collected is broken into 3 com-ponents for transfusion: Platelets, Red Cells and Plasma. A person requiring a transfusion only gets the Blood component that is needed to treat their situation. Therefore, 3 people benefit from your donation.

WHY SHOULD YOU GIVE BLOOD? Every 2 seconds someone needs Blood Blood is a living tissue and has a very short shelf life Blood can only come from people like you and me. Most Important….When you Give Blood, You Save Lives

Please stop and sign up to give Blood at Parish Blood Drive DATE: SATURDAY JANUARY 31st TIME: 2:00-8:00 PLACE: St. Joseph Lower Hall

We are also taking the names of anyone who would like to work the Blood Drive or bake for our donors.

¿POQUE DEBERIA DAR SANGRE?

The Holy Family Catholic School Annual Fund is worthy of your charitable support. Our students have counted on you in the past and you have never let them down! Through your generosity last year the school collected $25,904 which was used SPECIFICALLY for the kids as de-scribed in the campaign brochure. THANK YOU for your prayerful support and consideration of offering a pledge or gift to the 2015 Holy Family Catholic School Annual Fund.

THE WATERS OF BAPTISM When new sod is put in, it needs constant saturation with water. Landscapers say that this “knits” the sod to the soil. The same when a branch is grafted onto a tree: the poultice that joins them at the splice must be kept wet at all times. Water is the stuff that binds the very cells of our bodies together. No wonder religions throughout all times and cultures have used it so prominently. When Je-sus stepped into the Jordan for baptism, he “knit” himself to what had come before him. By going to the Jordan, he made himself one with the people of Israel who had crossed it into their Promised Land. With John the Baptist, Christ wove himself into the prophetic tradition that her-alded the coming reign of God. He had become fully human in the waters of Mary’s womb, and by partaking in the rite of the baptism of repentance, Jesus identified himself with our sinful, frail humanity. It is through the wa-ters of baptism that Christ continues to graft new mem-bers onto his Body, the Church; through these waters we are cleansed from sin and filled with the promise of grace, given our destiny for eternal life. For us, as for Jesus, it is also the waters of baptism that inaugurate our mission to proclaim the Good News. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
