Dear Father Tom, What does the Parish Advisory Council do? I've seen their column in the bulletin. I think I'd like to join. Curious Parishioner

Dear Curious, The Parish Advisor Council, or PAC, is the Parish's primary council. The PAC helps me learn and prioritize the needs of the parish. Serving on the PAC is a ministry that requires the gifts of a wise counselor, including the ability to study, inves-tigate, and examine pastoral matters thoroughly. Members should be able to listen to differing opinions, integrate various points of view, and discern with others what is best for the parish. PAC members must be registered parishioners and Catholics in good standing with the Church (Baptized, First Communion, Confirmation, attend Mass weekly, etc.). They are parishioners noted for their faith, good morals, and pru-dence. They must be committed to a life of prayer and to the mission and ministries of the parish. If you believe you are called to this ministry, I invite you to submit a nomination form in June. Father Tom

PAC Meeting March 15, 2018

Present: Steve Anderson, Mark Overberg, Greg Bengzon, Mary Lou Bergeron, Terry Mc Nulty, Tom Reilly, Jeanne Nappier, Cheryl Wilson, Fr. Tom Not Present: Elizabeth Vargas, Frank Bowen Welcome, Opening Prayer – Fr. Tom New discussion areas: Men’s Society The Men's Society is seeking to start several new programs to attract new members. The first, approved by Father Tom, is This Man is You. This 11-week program where men gather to pray and share their lives on Saturday mornings from 7-9:00 AM will start in the fall. A second is the Festival of Praise - a Christian rock band - probably during Advent.

Updates on previous agenda items:

PAC Membership Mark Overberg developed a series of notices that will appear in the bulletin starting in April to educate parishioners about PAC and encourage them to apply to become new members of the PAC this Fall. Applications are due by June 30.

Communion under 2 Species This was delayed by the flu, but will start in May at the Satur-day 5:00 Mass. We need to double the number of EMs from 75 to 150 to sustain this. We'll add the 7:00 and 5:00 Sunday Masses if all goes well and we have enough new EMs. After that, we'll review procedures and how we can implement it at the other Masses. Lighting Bids for contract are being reviewed. Work should start in May or June. There will be new light poles in front of the friary, along Franciscan Way, and in the parking lot. The lights in front of the Church will be replaced. We are looking into barriers in front of the church for safety purposes. PAC Members calls to new parishioners Father Tom sends a note to new parishioners to welcome them. The PAC now follows that up a month later with a phone call to welcome them, answer any questions, and refer them to any ministries they may be interested in. Property Purchase The parish purchased the house and property next to the church, 720 Vine Street, on Monday the Feast of St. Joseph – March 19th. The owners will live there for 12-14 more months while the parish study its use of the property. The first poten-tial plan is to provide a drive up entrance for the elderly and disabled to give them easier access to the church. The parish was assisted in the purchase by a loan from the Diocese.

PAC Emails The PAC received 10 emails, most concerning the planned changes in school administration. Mark Overberg replied. Sr. Karl Ann came out to talk to the Faculty and the Administra-tion Team and a professional mediator was to meet with the parents.

Ladies Society Meeting - April 19, 2018 - 7:30 p.m. All Ladies are invited to attend our next meeting. Before our meeting at 7:00 p.m., we pack lunches for the Dranesville Stu-dents who would not otherwise have food for the weekend. Volunteers are always needed! Come to our last meeting of the year to learn more about what we have done this past year. And how you can help! We need you! Any questions, please call Mary Kirby at 703-855-3294 or email [email protected].
