The Ascension of the Lord

Jesus told his followers they were witnesses to great events. They saw him die. And they saw him risen to new life.

They would also see the Good News spread throughout the world. Words of change and forgiveness to all people.

There was a difference between the two set of events. The death and resurrection were out of the followers' hands.

That was God's work. But spreading the Good News was in their hands. They could participate in God's will.

With the power of the Spirit, they could tell others about God's love.

Jesus calls us to be witnesses of the Good News, just like the followers. We are to spread God's love. Sometimes

in word. Sometimes in action. To help us prepare we call upon the Holy Spirit. The Ascension of the Lord

happened 40 days after his resurrection, thus completing another preparation. As a matter of fact, Easter is another

preparatory season, and the thing for which we prepare is for a birth, not of a person, but the church. Completing

his time of teaching, he informs his disciples that in a few days they will receive the Holy Spirit. Basically, they had

graduated, but as we know, and our children who are graduating are aware, life does not end with graduation,

it simply marks the beginning of a new stage in life. Now the disciples prayed to be ready to be able to fulfill the

“Great Commission” to preach. We who have already received the Holy Spirit, are called to continue to pray to be

good apostles. I finished my required seminary studies 7 years ago, but in order to be an effective apostle, I must

continue to study, pray, and deepen my knowledge of God and relationship with God. This call is extended to all

Christians. My dear brothers and sisters, let us look forward with joy towards the feast of Pentecost, the reminder

that we now participate fully in God’s plan of salvation for the human race as we proclaim the good news of God’s

love.

And to all our graduating students, congratulations on all your achievements. Remember all the lessons you have

learned, especially the ones that formed you to be people of good will, that you may bring the presence of Christ

wherever you may go. All of our prayers, love and support go with you as you continue your journey in life.

and for all our families and loved ones,

the protection of your holy angels,

that we may be spared the worst of this illness.

For those already afflicted,

we ask you to obtain the grace of healing and deliverance.

Hear the cries of those who are vulnerable and fearful,

wipe away their tears and help them to trust.

In this time of trial and testing,

teach all of us in the Church to love one another and to be

patient and kind.

Help us to bring the peace of Jesus to our land and to our

hearts.

We come to you with confidence,

knowing that you truly are our compassionate mother,

health of the sick and cause of our joy.

Shelter us under the mantle of your protection,

Keep us in the embrace of your arms,

help us always to know the love of your Son, Jesus.

Amen.

for returning to mass

As we have resumed public celebrations of Mass,

here are some guidelines to ensure the safety and

well-being of our community.

The Sunday Mass dispensation is still in effect.

If you are feeling ill, or do not feel comfortable

coming to the church, you are invited to stay home

and watch via livestream on our Facebook Page.

Because we must follow the 25% occupancy limit,

you may be invited to come to a different Mass or

move to an overflow designated area to watch the

Mass via livestream. Here are some precautions.

Please be patient

For the distribution of Communion, the usher will

motion you when to enter the aisle. Always maintain

six feet between your family group and others.

Please note children cry rooms will not be available

in parishes.
