The celebration of

Christ, King of the Universe,

was instituted by Pope Pius XI

in December of 1925. Mexico

was the first to welcome it, but

Catholics were being oppressed

and persecuted by President

Calles. Nevertheless, a church

was built with a monumental statue of Christ on

the mountain of El Cubilete in Guanajuato. Under

presidential orders, this was bombed by an

aircraft, but was rebuilt anew and still stands

right in the center of the Republic of Mexico.

We as people have been taught to only act

charitably if we will receive something in return.

We apply ourselves in our studies simply to obtain

the best grades. We train arduously in sports just

to win a championship. We invest love to obtain

love in return. We also learn not to take care of

business unless it guarantees a benefit.

Even the Apostles had hoped to obtain

earthly benefit from Jesus. The mother of James

and John requested her sons to be seated on each

side of Jesus at his throne. Ultimately, it was not

they, but Dimas and Gestas who were at His sides

on the cross.

How difficult it is to recognize the King of

the Universe on the throne of the cross, with the

crown not made of gold and precious stones, but

with thorns and blood! Gestas, like so many, was

not able to recognize him. However, Dimas was

able to steal heaven at the last minute when he

recognized Jesus as his real King and Savior. He

asks for His grace to be remembered when he

enters into his Kingdom. At this, Jesus assures

him that he will be with Him in paradise that

same day.

The way to salvation is to love Christ in

our neighbors even if He is unrecognizable, as on

the cross with His deformed and bleeding face.

Even if His face is so deformed in our neighbors’

faces due to the blows of life, and despite all their

vices, bad temper, poverty, shame, indignity, or

sin; to love them even if they are sinners because

He gave his life for all of us sinners.

La fiesta de Cristo, Rey del

Universo, fue instituida por el Papa

Pío XI en diciembre de 1925. México

fue el primero en acogerla aunque

estaba siendo reprimida y luego

perseguida por el Presidente Calles la

Fe Católica. Sin embargo, se edificó

un templo con una estatua

monumental de Cristo en el Cerro del Cubilete en

Guanajuato, que fue bombardeada desde un avión

por órdenes presidenciales, pero fue reconstruida

nuevamente y sigue en pie justo en el centro de la

República.

Se nos ha enseñado a actuar por el interés de

recibir algo a cambio. Nos esforzamos en el estudio

para obtener las mejores calificaciones. Nos

esforzamos en el deporte para ganar un campeonato,

invertimos amor, para obtener amor. También se

nos ha enseñado a no ocuparnos de lo que no nos

reditúe un beneficio.

Los Apóstoles mismos, tenían puesta las

esperanzas de obtener un beneficio de Jesús aquí en

la Tierra. Incluso la Mamá de Santiago y Juan

quiere que cuando Jesús esté en su trono, sus hijos

estén a su lado derecho e izquierdo y, quienes

estuvieron a sus lados finalmente, fueron Dimas y

Gestas.

¡Que difícil es reconocer al Rey del Universo

en el trono de la cruz, con una corona, no de oro y

piedras preciosas, sino de espinas y sangre! Gestas, al

igual que muchos, no pudieron reconocerlo, sin

embargo, Dimas, supo robarse el Cielo en el último

momento al reconocerlo como su verdadero Rey y

Salvador y le pide la gracia de que se acuerde de él

cuando esté en su Reino. Ante esto, Jesús le

garantiza que estará con El en el Paraíso esa misma

tarde.

El camino para la salvación es el amor a El

en el prójimo, aunque esté tan irreconocible como lo

estuvo con el rostro deformado y sangrante en la

cruz, aunque esté tan deformado en nuestro prójimo

a causa de los golpes que la vida les ha dado, a pesar

de sus vicios, mal carácter, desconfianza, pobreza,

vergüenza, indignidad o pecado. Amarles aunque

sean pecadores, pues El dio su vida para salvarnos

aunque somos pecadores.

THE SECOND COLLECTION TODAY. The Collection for the Catholic Campaign for

Human Development (CCHD) provides funds to groups

that made lasting changes and give encouragement to the

poor in the United States. In the last five years, more

than 36% of CCHD grants have been directed to improve

education, support economic development and improve

housing in low-income neighborhoods. Help us continue

defending human dignity and erase poverty map.

THE REAL SANTA CLAUS.- On Friday, December 6, the Church celebrates the memory of the real Santa Claus. Saint Nicolas, Bishop of Myra, who is a good example of charity, forgiveness and love for everyone, even to his enemies. We are going to Celebrate the Mass in his honor at 6 p.m. and at the end you will receive the blessing with the Most Blessed Sacrament. PREPARATION FOR THE FESTIVITY OF GUADALUPE.-
