LENTEN REGULATIONS • Everyone 14 years of age or over is bound to

abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday and all the Fridays of Lent (excluding the Solemnity of St. Joseph per Canon 1251).

• Everyone 18 years of age and under 59 years of age is bound to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday.

• On these two days of fast and abstinence, only one full meatless meal is allowed. Two other meatless meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken according to each one’s needs, but together they should not equal another full meal. Eating between meals is not permitted on these two days, but liquids, including milk and fruit juices are allowed. When health or ability to work would be seriously affected, the law does not oblige.

• To disregard completely the law of fast and abstinence is seriously sinful.

• Lent is the principal season of penance in the Christian year. All of the faithful are strongly urged to develop and follow a program of vol-untary self-denial (in addition to following the Lenten regulations), serious prayer, and a performance of works of charity and mercy.

∗la abstinencia de aquellos alimentos que para cada uno significan especial agrado, sea por la materia o por el modo de preparación;

Don’t Journey Alone

In the weeks preceding Lent, one might notice how so many things seem to go wrong or difficulties increase. We see this in worldly events and in our personal lives too. As Easter arrives, and after much prayer and sacri-fice, a peace seems to fall upon our difficulties and things often get better. After years of this awareness, we realize that our journey is a very real one and not something to be taken lightly or even alone. In the weeks to come, your parish of St. Joseph will be hosting a series of speakers that may help us “Come Closer to God”. You are invited to join your fellow pa-rishioners on Monday evenings, from February 27th through March 26th, at 7:00 pm, as we contemplate our lives and improve and continue our journey towards Easter Resurrection. Don’t journey alone. Christianity was meant to be shared. Even as we decide what we will sacrifice from our lives during the forty days of Lent, we are encouraged to know that our brothers and sisters in Christ are giving and sacri-ficing with us. We not only sacrifice goodies, we see that others increase Mass attendance, pray the rosary more often, pray the Stations of the Cross, attend Adoration, and some provide actions or activities to help others in their lives. Our speakers will be here to do that for us. We will explore the Eucharist, forgiveness, prayer and holy scripture, as we learn about the hidden treasures of Lent and how we can live more fully as beloved children of God. During this Lenten period of fasting and prayer, come and understand and appreciate the many ways we can come closer to Christ. Let us journey on towards our goal in life, which is life with Jesus Christ and new ways of shar-ing His love with others. There is a world in need of knowing Jesus. May we come together and share the gifts we have been blessed with as we continue upon our sa-cred journey of Christianity. Let us all come closer to God.

No viajar solo.

THE 2012 CATHOLIC MINISTRIES ANNUAL APPEAL

IS UNDERWAY

“THE KINGDOM OF GOD IS AT HAND” (MARK 1:15)

This year, the theme of the Appeal is “The Kingdom of God is at Hand.” We are challenged as Catholics to build up God’s kingdom here on earth. Your con-tribution to the CMAA enables the diocese to up-hold the Gospel message and build up the kingdom of God throughout the seven-county area of the Joliet Diocese. Please remember that God never forgets us. Even when we believe that our successes are self- made, it is the blessings that God has given to each of us that have helped us to get where we are. He is always giving to us. His grace is always there for us. One way that we can show our gratitude is by offering our generous financial support to our parish and to our diocese. The gifts that we give enable ministries and services that touch thousands of lives. Please answer Bishop Conlon’s request and make a generous pledge. All pledges can be paid in ten monthly installments. Thank you in advance for your support.

Join the Respect Life Office in Prayer

Please join the Respect Life Office in praying for our elected officials and for our efforts to advocate for Life. Say the prayer found below daily during this upcoming week. Catholic Ministries Annual Appeal 2012

Please Make a Generous Gift

This week, you are asked to review the Annual Appeal tabloid that you have received with your bulletin today. The Annual Appeal campaign is much different than a one-time special collection. It is a pledge campaign where you can make a gift payable over ten months. A significant gift to the Catholic Ministries Annual Appeal will touch the lives of many others in a very posi-tive way. The Annual Appeal provides a significant portion of the budget of the Diocese of Joliet. Most dio-ceses in the country conduct an appeal, once a year, to help with the costs of providing services and programs to their parishes and people. The Diocese of Joliet is no exception. As you review the work enabled by your contribution to the CMAA, please reflect on God’s gifts to you. . Everything we have is a blessing from God. Your gifts to our parish, to the diocese, and to the work of the church throughout the world should be given in gratitude for the continuing gifts that God gives you. He never forgets you. Sometimes it is difficult to envision how one pledge can help an organization the size of our diocese and how it can make a real difference. But each pledge does make a difference because all parishes participate in the campaign and the gifts of many enable our diocese to deliver needed education, ministry, and services. Our combined gifts not only signify our gratitude to God, they glorify Him by enabling the important work of our diocese that can’t be done as individuals or at the parish level. If you received your pledge form in the mail, please complete it and mail it back or bring it to Mass next week-end. For those of you that did not receive a mailing or have not had time to respond to it, we will conduct our in-pew pledge process at all Masses next weekend.

Thank you ! Thank you! Thank you!

To all the wonderful people who helped make our Parish

Blood Drive such a great success. We collected 206 pints of blood!

This is a record for St Joes!!! And just think, possibly this could

save the lives of 618 people.

Again, thanks to the people who brought refreshment for our donors,

those who helped promote the drive, those who worked the day of

the drive and especially "Our Donors"

Together we can and have made a difference!
