The Appeal provides critical funding to diocesan ministries that serve individuals and parishes through-out the Diocese of Joliet. It also provides refunds of 50% of the cash received (not pledged) over the parish goal to each par-ish. If you receive this mailing, please respond generously. You will be helping both our diocese and our parish. Also, the last monthly reminders have been sent to those who made an in-pew pledge to the Appeal. Those who pledged by direct mail have already received payment coupons. Thank you for your gifts, and please make your payment as soon as possi-ble. For your convenience, you can bring your pledge payments to Mass and place them in the basket. The parish will forward them to the diocese.

Adult Education Opportunity Focuses on Vatican II

Mark your calendars now for the next round of Gifts of Finest Wheat. Gifts of Finest Wheat is an ongoing adult education opportunity at Ss. Peter and Paul in Naperville. This Winter, we will focus on the topic of Revelation: God Speaks to His People by study-ing the document of Vatican II, Dei Verbum. The Pope has asked us to study the documents of Vatican II in this Year of Faith; will you answer his call? We will meet for 6 Thursday evenings beginning Thurs-day, January 10th, from 7-8:30pm. No registration or fees required. Contact Mike at [email protected] for more details.

Dear Parish Members: Our Sunday bulletin is an important way for us to communicate with you. Producing it every week could be very costly, but through our arrangement with the J. S. Paluch Company the parish does not pay for the printing, saving thousands of dollars each year. The Paluch Company arranges for the bulletin to be supported through the generosity of the businesses that you see advertised on the back cover. Most of these advertisers are members of our local community, and many belong to our parish. During these difficult economic times, I urge you to support these advertisers with your patronage. Tell the business owners that you appreciate their sup-port of our parish through their advertisements in the bulletin. This is one small way that we can work within our own community to weather the chal-lenges that we face. A strong and vibrant parish is good for our community and a thriving business community is good for our parish.

—Virginia Stillwell Derechos de autor © 2012, World Library Publications. Reflecting on God’s Word ’Tis the season for bell choirs and brass renditions of beloved carols. Church musicians are rounding up trumpet-ers and French horn players to rehearse for Christmas liturgies. What would a Christmas television special be with-out pealing bells in the closing sequence? The joyful sounds of brass instruments herald the good news that the Lord of the universe has entered into human history once and forever in the poor infant Jesus. There is another kind of bell that seems to follow us wherever we go at this time of year—the Salvation Army bells. They remind us that not everyone has experienced the good news of salvation yet. There are many who suf-fer while others wallow in abundance. Today’s scriptures remind us that the Lord is with us to save us from our sinfulness, so that justice, love, and peace might reign at last in the world. Then all God’s people will be able to rejoice. —Virginia Stillwell Copyright © 2012, World Library Publications. All rights reserved. Living God’s Word When we pray the Our Father at Mass the priest voices a prayer that asks the Lord to free our minds of worry as we look forward to Jesus’ coming. Joyful hope gives us the spirit and the confidence to do all that we can, expect-ing that Christ’s saving power will be present in our midst. Copyright © 2012, World Library Publications. Stewardship Thought for the Week When excitement builds, as it certainly does for chil-dren at Christmastime, there is often a temptation to jump right into the event without having properly pre-pared for it. We do this too often. Such things take away from the joy of the actual feast. We still have time to properly prepare our souls and our hearts for the true meaning of Christmas. December 9, 2012
