Our Parish Mission Statement

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon us because the Lord has anointed us to proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ!”

(Inspired by Jesus Mission Statement: Luke 4:18)

Question of the Week

Have I failed to recognize Jesus standing on the shore in the light of dawn encouraging me try it a different way? How do I respond to a kind, empathetic suggestion to change the way I am doing things?

Living Stewardship Now “Try as far as you can to do everything well, but when it is done, don think about it. Try, rather, to think of what is to be done next.. Go on simply in the Lord’s way, and do not torment yourself.”

GET UP EIGHT We can all take heart in today’s Gospel. The risen Jesus appears to the disciples and asks Simon Peter three times, “Do you love me?” Peter says each time, “You know I love you,” and Jesus tells him to feed and tend his flock. A few days earlier, around another charcoal fire, Peter denied knowing Jesus three times. Like Peter, at times we betray our Lord and Savior, but our sin and failure is not a permanent break with God and other people—unless we make it so. Peter was reckless, hasty, and enthusiastic. Jesus saw his big heart and his true willingness to persevere, so he entrusted him with leadership of the little flock of believers. Peter followed Jesus faithfully, eventually to crucifixion in Rome. He was a flawed human being but we proclaim him a great saint of the Church. We too are flawed and God knows it, but God works with us and through us if we allow God to do so. The Japanese have a saying: “Fall down seven times, get up eight”—a good description of the Christian life. The falls are painful, but they do not matter if we get up and continue on.

Tuesday Night with

the Sisters

Ora et labore is the motto of the Benedictines--work and prayer. How do we interpret and live this motto in a society which makes an

idol of paid employment … expecting all workers to be workaholics, and at the same time devaluing those who cannot 'work': the

sick, the disabled and the retired?

Join the Benedictine Sisters of the Sacred Heart and presenter Chris Fletcher on May 14 from 7-8:30pm at the Sacred Heart Monastery

located at 1910 Maple Ave in Lisle.

For more information, contact Beth Hemzacek at [email protected]

During Religious Freedom Week, Catholics are encouraged to pray and act each day for religious freedom. The Pray-Reflect-Act series aims to help Catholics build solidarity with people of faith who are persecuted abroad and find strength to carry out the mission of the Church here in the United States.

Religious Freedom Week 2019:

Strength in Hope

Religious Freedom Week takes place from June 22 to 29.

The Week begins with the Feast of Sts. John Fisher and Thomas More, ends with the Solemnity of Sts. Peter and Paul, and includes the Feast of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist.

CONGRATULATIONS TO JANN ZUZZYSE ATENDIDO--

2019 KAZMA SCHOLAR

Holy Family 8th grade student, Jann Atendido, has been awarded the Kazma Family Scholarship. Jann will attend Immaculate Conception College Prep High School in the fall and is a well deserving recipient of this 4 year scholarship. In order to be considered for the Kazma Scholarship, students must demonstrate active participation in their Catholic parish, academic achievement, and service to the community. Jann is an altar server, award winning instrumental musician, recipient of Academic High Honors, and active participant in ser-vice projects at Holy Family Catholic School.

The Kazma Family Foundation is a non-profit organization that provides scholarships and supports education initiatives and other charitable activities. The Kazma family launched their Foundation in 1997 to provide schol-arships for financially needy students. Over the years, it has granted more than 1,000 scholarships to college and high school students and has funded the construction of various schools and classrooms in Central America and the U.S.

We are so proud of Jann for pursuing a life of faith and academic excellence. He is a fine example for all stu-dents at Holy Family Catholic School. Congratulations Jann!

HOLY FAMILY STUDENTS EXPAND THEIR KNOWLEDGE THROUGH FIELD TRIP OPPORTUNITIES During the month of May students will be boarding buses for a variety of Field Trip opportunities across the Chicagoland area. Field Trips are a wonderful way for students to connect real world experiences to classroom learning. These “hands on” experiences pique student interest and solidify knowledge in the content areas. PreK and Kdg. students will head to Cosley Zoo while grades 1-3 travel to Brookfield Zoo. Students will explore animal life cycles, habitats, and adaptations. Grades 3-6 are scheduled to visit the Field Museum of Natural History to further their study of diverse cultures and ancient civilizations. Middle School has a few trips planned including one to the Crypt of Saints at Visitation Church in Elmhurst and the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Des Plaines. The much anticipated 8th Grade Graduation Trip will include the production of Matilda at Drury Lane Theater, lunch at Oakbrook Center, a trip to Brookfield Zoo, and dinner and games at Dave & Busters. Thanks to our fine faculty for providing these valuable learning experiences and to the PSA for their financial support. Jann Zuzzyse Atendido, HFCS 2019 Kazma Scholar
