This is obviously music to my ears as your leader. This week I have met with our school Parent and Teacher Association (PTA) Treasurer and Chair to discuss how we can maximise opportunities for all parents and carers, especially our new parents and those working. A PTA meeting took place yesterday but unfortunately I was at a headteachers briefing so I couldn't attend, therefore, I thought I could pose questions via the Friday update. What I need to know as your leader are your views around the PTA. These are the options suggested so far, at this point they are just suggestions. You may have some alternative solutions, please do not hesitate to let us know if you do. Option one: Continue with the current PTA structure as it is with an elected Chair, Vice Chair, who delegate roles and responsibilities, a Secretary and Treasurer. Alternatively, the load could be spread with a two tier model, e.g. Option Two: 2.i. A working party of three key players who completely project manage one area of school social/fund raising each, e.g. The Christmas Fair, Easter Celebrations, Summer Cel- ebrations with the support of an extensive team that can be called upon and be actively involved work permitting, etc. 2.ii.The second part of this model is to have a parent or carer class rep. The PTA Annual General Meeting is taking place on the 18th October @ 7.00pm this is a time when elections take place. Friday Update Issue 3 Friday 22nd September 2017

St John’s Meads C of E Primary School Website www.meads.e-sussex.sch.uk

Thank you very much for all of the two stars and a wish responses. I will be

publishing the outcomes in next week’s Friday update. What is really apparent is

that parents and carers want to have greater opportunities to become more

actively involved in school life and continue to develop home/school

communication. This is obviously music to my ears as your leader.

This week I have met with our school Parent and Teacher Association (PTA)

Treasurer and Chair to discuss how we can maximise opportunities for all parents

and carers, especially our new parents and those working. I have also had lengthy

discussions with many parents and carers on the playground and in requested one

to one meetings to try to establish what is already in place, what works and what

alternative options we could propose to increase parental support.

A PTA meeting took place yesterday but unfortunately I was at a headteachers

briefing so I couldn't attend, therefore, I thought I could pose questions via the

Friday update. What I need to know as your leader are your views around the

PTA. These are the options suggested so far, at this point they are just

suggestions. You may have some alternative solutions, please do not hesitate to let

us know if you do.

Option one:

Continue with the current PTA structure as it is with an elected Chair, Vice Chair, who

delegate roles and responsibilities, a Secretary and Treasurer.

Alternatively, the load could be spread with a two tier model, e.g.

Option Two:

2.i. A working party of three key players who completely project manage one area of

school social/fund raising each, e.g. The Christmas Fair, Easter Celebrations, Summer Cel-

ebrations with the support of an extensive team that can be called upon and be actively

involved work permitting, etc.

2.ii.The second part of this model is to have a parent or carer class rep. These parents

and carers organise and work with the class teacher to organise and communicate class

and year group engagement.

your preferred option or an alternative solution.

The PTA Annual General Meeting is taking place on the 18th October

@ 7.00pm this is a time when elections take place. We are aware that Mr Barratt

our wonderful treasurer will be stepping down and we will need a replacement. If

you are interested can you please let us know as soon as possible.

Mrs Turner’s Pop up Coffee Morning planned for Wednesday

4th October will now be the annual Macmillan Coffee Morning.

Could we please ask for donations of cakes. Any parents and carers

willing to help with the event would be greatly appreciated. If you have

some time to help would you please let Mrs Newton Brown in the office

know. Any left over cakes will be sold at the end of the school day to

further support the cause.

Wednesday 4th October 9.00 - 10.00am in the Main School

Hall

We would like to apologise for the delay in the completion of the

Topic Webs. We have just carried out a really valuable exercise using and

adjusting the topic webs to ensure whole school consistency and year on

year continuity and progression. Topic webs will be posted in the class

page section of the school website on the last day of every half term to

inform parents and carers of what their children will be studying and

learning in the next half term as well as a means to help parents and

carers support and prepare their children for their next steps to learning

and achieving their targets.

Due to the erratic weather

conditions could we please ask that the children

change now into the winter uniform as we have

many children coming to school without a sweat-

shirt. We are an all weather school and we expect

all children to be outside in all weather conditions

during break and lunch time. Thank you for your

cooperation.

Fraser Caffyn ~ Year 5 For excellent study skills using and

applying known facts.

Is there anyone who would be willing to make 12

table cloths? We will supply the green gingham (2

meter strips) we just need someone who is willing

to turn and sew the edges to make the table cloths.

Please contact Mrs Turner if you can help.

Thank You

Class Date Time

Year Three 03.10.17 5.30pm

Year Four 03.10.17 5.30pm

Year Five 03.10.17 5.30pm

Year Six 03.10.17 5.30pm

Reception 10.10.17 5.30pm

Year One 10.10.17 5.30pm

Year Two 10.10.17 5.30pm

We respect you already know your children’s class teacher

but this meeting is important as it is an opportunity to share

with parents and carers as a whole group what your chil-

dren will be learning during their time in this year group. It

is an opportunity to discuss key dates and key events in the

school calendar as well as get to network with other

parents and carers from the class. We hope you can make

it.
