Many thanks to all the children, parents

and staff who attended our Harvest

Festival in Church and for the numerous

back pack donations received.

Cross-country success

Well done to all the children who took

part in the inter-school cross-country

competition before the holiday. St

John’s came 1st! Thank you to all the

parents who came to support and who

helped with transport – please see

overleaf for a full report.

Book Fayre

Our book fayre will be held from 8th

November to 10th November in the

school hall before and after school.

Watch out for the dates and times

detailed on posters around school.

KS2

A quick reminder that all Y4 pupils will

be cooking every Friday afternoon from

10th November to 15th December.

Y4 pupils will need to bring £1.50, a tea

towel and an oven proof container each

week.

Y4 pupils will also be swimming on a

Friday morning for this ½ term from

Friday 10th November to Friday 22nd

December.

Remembrance

We have poppies and other small

related items from The British Legion for

sale in school. We recommend a

donation of 20p for a poppy. Other

items range from 50p to £1. Year 6 pupils

will be selling the items each day at 1

o’clock.

Florence Nightingale

On Tuesday 14th November, EYFS and

KS1 will be having a special curriculum

day to learn all about Florence

Nightingale. The children will enjoy

special activities to explore her life and

the times she lived in. Children should be

in school uniform please.

Children in Need

The school council will be leading

fundraising for Children in Need on

Friday 17th November. They will be

holding a bun sale in school with a

spotty theme! Children are also invited

to come to school in non-uniform with

the theme of spots or Pudsey. Please

see the letter from the school council.

Y6 Whitby residential trip - the first letter

has been sent home. Please make a

note of the dates in your 2018 diary,

Tuesday 19th June – Friday 22nd June

2018. Please complete the permission

slip and return to school with the initial

deposit of £50 by Tuesday 7th November.

EYFS & KS1 Nativity play

Ticket request letters will be sent home

later in November. Tickets do go very

quickly, so please fill in your request

(max 3 tickets) and return to school to

avoid disappointment! Extra tickets will

be available from the office on Thursday

14th December.

The Christmas dinner week menu will be

sent home for those children who have

packed lunches, but would like to order

a Christmas dinner. Please return any

order with payment of £2.30 by Monday

20th November.

Darker nights

Now that the afternoons are much

darker after school, please ensure your

child can be seen, wearing

bright/reflective colours.

Individual Photos

Please remember to return your child’s

individual and sibling class photos to

school or alternatively you can

purchase them online following the

instructions on the back of the order

form.

Bad weather and texting

With the winter approaching it is vital

that all mobile contact numbers are up

to date, as we will use the texting

service to notify parents of any closure.

Bad weather can disrupt traffic and

cause school closure; however the

school will only close if there are

insufficient staff to supervise the children

safely. We appreciate that some St

John’s families live on the hilltops in

isolated places, and that conditions

here can be quite different from the

lower ground. Safety is always our

priority, so if during a snowy spell you

feel that it would be prudent to avoid

travelling or you want to collect your

children early, please keep us informed.

Can parents/carers please visit the

school and Calderdale’s websites;

www.stjohnsrishworth.org.uk OR

www.calderdale.gov.uk/emergencysch

oolclosures and listen to BBC Radio

Leeds 92.4 fm / 774 am and The Pulse

102.5fm where up to date information

will be found.

Reception intake 2018

If you are aware of any siblings or

children due to start school in

September 2018, please ensure that the

school office has their details so they

may receive the Calderdale information

pack and school prospectus due to be

sent out in the late Autumn.

Portacabin

Aftercare are now fully operational in

their new home! Thank you for your

patience during the building works.

PTA AGM – 27th September
