From the Pastor Greetings Brothers and Sisters in Christ at St. John’s in Stony Ridge!
My prayers and thoughts are with each of you as we continue during this time of transition between your called lead pastors.
Being your “pastor between pastors” is truly a blessing I will always hold dear in my heart.
Can you believe it is already May? How time flies when you are being blessed by God! There are many important things
coming up for our congregation this month. Here’s some for you to think about, pray for and participate in:
Prayer Retreat: At my home in Oregon from 9 a.m.to 3 p.m. on Saturday May 12th.
This is sponsored by the Prayer and
Retreat Committee and lunch will be provided. In the Northwestern Ohio Synod we are focusing on prayer this year and at
this retreat we will pray in many ways. Everyone is invited to attend; please sign up in the lobby.
Habitat for Humanity: Our church is supporting this home being built on Guy Street in Walbridge. There are folks signing up
to help build, to offer devotional prayers in the morning at 8 a.m. and to serve lunch for the volunteers. The home is being
built for Danielle and her 5 yr. old daughter Raelynn. If you are interested in serving on this project please contact Pastor
Cindy so you can be connected with those folks in charge of volunteers.
Confirmation Day: On Pentecost Sunday, May 20th at the 10:45a.m. service we have 8 students who will be confirmed. They
are: Cameron Schramm, Will Kelly, Collin Henry, Ross Welling, Kaylynn Simon, Sami Sibbersen, Hannah Lang and Madelyn
St. Mary. These students have completed their Catechism assignments and have learned so much about God and our
Lutheran faith. We are most grateful that they have learned about loving Jesus and have begun to serve others in His name.
These students are now ready to declare their own personal faith in Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. Each student will
choose a favorite Bible verse for their Confirmation. Do you remember yours?
When these “Children of God” were baptized their parents made promises to the Lord to nurture their Christian faith in a
variety of ways.
As we all live out our baptism promises, by the help of the Holy Spirit, may these gifts of discipleship also be an important
part of our lives:
To live among God’s faithful people,
To hear the word of God and share in the Lord’s Supper,
To proclaim the good news of God in Christ through word and deed,
To serve all people, following the example of Jesus,
To strive for justice and peace in all the earth.
Church service times change: On Memorial Day weekend our worship service times are adjusted for the summer. The
Praise Service is at 8:30 a.m. and the Traditional Service is at 10:00 a.m.
As we move into this change of season…remember our God never changes. God loves us through all stages of
life…through every season, every joy and every challenge. God’s promises given to us in our baptism are with us forever!
We are never separated from God’s love. Scripture proclaims:
38 For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor
powers, 39
nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ
Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:38-39)
Peace and blessings to you! In Christ, Pastor Cindy Ritter

works starts on a build day. They are also looking for crew leaders. We have a stud in the

The cookbook committee is excited to see your recipes coming in!! As you all know there are many amazing cooks in this church. How about that chili recipe from the chili cook-off? Or your favorite dish to bring to a potluck? We are looking for your treasured family recipes, a favorite holiday recipe, your healthy recipes, homemade craft recipes and so on. Our goal is to replicate our last cookbook and that one had just under 600 recipes, we have a long way to go to reach our goal! This cookbook will have a spot light on the church history of our stained glass windows, table prayers from your family and the mission of St. Johns. Also, we are looking for artwork to be used as recipe fillers. Please include your name and, if drawn by a child, please include their age. We have extended our deadline to May 13th for the recipe collection. The recipe forms are available in the Narthex by a display board, on our church Facebook page and on St. John’s website. There is a folder in the church office to drop off the completed recipe forms. Your recipe can also be sent electronically to... [email protected]

~ Vacation Bible School! ~
At Shipwrecked VBS, kids explore the rock-solid foundation of Jesus’ love.
Shipwrecked VBS is filled with incredible Bible-learning experiences that kids see, hear, touch, and even taste! SciencyFun Gizmos™, team-building games, cool Bible songs, and tasty treats are just a few of the standout activities that help faith flow into
real life. We will also discover how to see evidence of God in everyday life - something we call God Sightings. Get ready to hear that phrase a lot!
Shipwrecked VBS will be June 18-22 from 9 a.m. to Noon.
If you have a (potty-trained) 3 year old through (entering) fifth-grade mark your calendars and register today!
We look forward to enjoying this amazing adventure with you!
WE NEED YOU ON OUR CREW! Every summer during our annual VBS, we are able to witness to 100 toddlers
through fifth-graders, sharing the amazing love God has for them. None of this would be possible without the help of our talented crew.
There are so many different ways that we need volunteers. Please prayerfully consider helping this year!
If you have never helped before, you will be amazed at how often the crew gets as much out of VBS as the kids attending.
If you would like to help with VBS, we need YOU!!!
If you would like to help, have any questions, or need more information, please contact the VBS Director, Rachael Swartz, at 419-837-5115 or [email protected]

LUTHERAN WORLD RELIEF BABY CARE KITS
A BIG THANK YOU to all who have donated items for baby care kits. The need is great and we plan to do the project again this year. Note: Lutheran World Relief establishes what is to be included in each kit - not our Church! Please only donate items listed. We can’t send anything not on the list. There is a box in the coatroom for donations. Gently used clothing (without stains) is acceptable. We can use garage sale finds, and items from thrift stores (e.g. Goodwill and Salvation Army).
ITEMS NEEDED FOR EACH KIT: 1. Two lightweight cotton T-shirts. (PLEASE - NO ONESIES WITH SNAPS IN THE CROTCH)
2. Two long or short-sleeved gowns or sleepers WITHOUT FEET. Or pajama tops & pants WITHOUT FEET.
3. Two receiving blankets, 36” to 52” square. Can be cotton, flannel, crocheted or knitted of
lightweight yarns. 4. Four cloth diapers (flat fold so mothers can fold them to fit the baby as it grows). Note: Wal-Mart carries flat fold diapers. 5. Two pairs of socks. 6. One lightweight jacket, sweatshirt, or sweater with hood. No Hood? We have hats in our
inventory to put with items without a hood. 7. One hand towel, dark color recommended. 8. Two or three bath-sized bars of gentle soap equaling 8 to 9 oz., any brand in original wrap. 9. Two diaper pins or large safety pins.
Sizes 6 months to 24 months may be used. Varying the sizes of the clothing within the kit makes it more useful as the baby grows.

The Culp Family A huge thank you to all who helped with the Dartball Banquet: phone calls, pies donated, set up, serving & clean up were accomplished by volunteers who made it all happen. Also, thanks to the youth for serving & clean up; all profits will be given to the youth for their trip this summer to Texas. Jan Rucki I want to thank everyone for the prayer card, other cards, your prayers and words of concern after my minor health problem back in February. Also, thank you to Pastor Cindy for bringing communion to Carolyn and I while I was at St. Luke’s Hospital and for bringing the prayer shawl a member had made. Thank you everyone. Bill Staib I would like to thank all of you who sent cards and offered prayers for my recent surgery. Special thank you to Pastor Cindy for her prayerful and welcome visit before and during my surgery and for also for bringing me communion during my home recovery. Also, a special heartfelt thank you for the gift card and prayer blanket. Because of your kindness, concern, and prayers I was blessed with a successful surgery.
