    Reflection on Todays Readings

It is an almost unquestionable principle among many people today that it is bad to be judgmental. After all, doesnt Jesus say, Judge not, lest you be judged? But todays scriptures imply that holding people accountable for their actions is not only something that God commands us to do, but it is also one of the ways in which we show love to our neighbors. When we see someone doing something wrong, it is an act of kindness to turn him or her from that course of action.

Important here is the distinction between judging a person and judging an action. Only God can judge a person because only God can see into the heart and know the intention with which someone acts. But, as Paul reminds us in the second reading, God has also shown us the sort of actions that befit a truly loving person, the sort of actions that lead us toward God rather than away from God. While we cannot judge how a person stands in the eyes of God, we are called to make judgments all the time about our own actions and the actions of others. If we see people acting in a way that is unloving, we are obligated to point this out, for their own good as well as for the good of those around them.

We should ask ourselves whether our hesitation to judge another persons actions grows out of genuine humility and acceptance or out of a desire simply not to be perceived as a scold. Few of us relish the role of keeper of public morality. But when we see someone engaged in behavior that is harmful to themselves or others, it is our role to speak out honestly and with love. Loving God, give us your Spirit of gentleness and wisdom so that we may know what is truly good and make it known to others with fearlessness and love, through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Stewardship: Sharing our Time, Talent, and Treasure!

You, son of man, I have appointed watchman for the house of Israel. - Ezekiel 33:7

Many of us are generous with our gifts. However, how often is our generosity at the minimum level required? We do just enough or give just enough. Remember, the Lord calls us to be generous with all the gifts He has given us, to grow them and return them with increase.

A NEW BEGINNING Transfiguration Begins its 9th Year

It is through change that people and institutions grow, thrive and survive. As we begin our 9th year we are being challenged to implement a new writing assessment program, reflect the Common Core Standards throughout our curriculum, and conform to a new Strategic Plan and model for Catholic Schools in the Archdiocese of Newark. Placed with these new programs beginning all at once, the real challenge for Transfiguration Academy is to continue to be a Community of Growth and Faith. We will continue to foster new growth by supporting one another as we implement the changes demanded by this growth. With the support of our Pastoral Administrator, Msgr. Arnhols and our former co-sponsored parishes, under the pastoral leadership of Fr. David and Fr. Dominic, we will continue to meet and exceed our goals. We will improve academic excellence, continue to foster Catholic values in an ever changing social and economic environment, and provide extracurricular programs which promote the academic, physical and spiritual growth of our students. The Transfiguration Faculty will continue to lead by example. Their dedication to our school and our students is further testament that, working together, great things can be accomplished. We begin this year asking for Gods continued blessings. I cannot remember the author for proper attribution, but I dont think he or she would mind if we begin this new school year remembering ...it is God who has begun this good work and it is God who continues to grace and direct this work of Praising, Blessing, Teaching and Preaching. - Mr. Salvatore Tralongo, Principal
