Dear Parish Family,
With the death of Christ, in normal circum-stances his disciples would have gone in to a 'tail-spin' in their faith in Jesus. Even with
the situation in Jerusalem deteriorating due to the political upheav-al, the rise of fanaticism of the violent factions of Jews against the Romans, the enraged religious authorities challenging the new sect of Christians, we find the early Church resolute. And their numbers were increasing constantly. There is something captivating and promising about beginnings. Fervor and enthusiasm run high. There were also people who had not known Jesus of Nazareth personally, as the faith began to spread. The Acts of the Apostles that we read in the Easter time will enable us to capture some of the wonderful ways the early Church worked wonders very conscious of the fact that the Spirit was working through them. But in the course of time, and in the wake of opposition, the faith of many began to wane. Enthusiastic beginnings end up with a "mediocre" mentality. With-in the church, we have experienced, even in our lifetime, any num-ber of new beginnings. Much of it has left some good in its wake. But novelty of itself does not hold adherents. Those early believers who persevered in the faith were those who had built their house on solid ground. Today's gospel is for all of us who have not seen and have believed. Thomas doesn't get "the best press." He turns out to be another ra-ther disappointing apostle. For him seeing was believing. And the Lord's words are so clear. How important it is to believe because God is truthful. And in honesty we can say that is where we are. Struggle with belief, yes. Moments of strength and weakness, yes. We do not live in a state of vision, so we struggle with doubt. And there is very little novelty in the lives of most of us. And added to it we have put our ‘beliefs’ into straight jackets like the religious leaders of Jesus’ time, so he said, ‘new wine must be put into new wine skins’. Christ invites Thomas and us to go beyond the rational and the obvious, to transform our lives with faith in His word. May be then we will have the courage to drop our prejudices and look around the believing community through the compassion of Christ. Sight is a great gift. We love to see new places, new faces, and make new friends. And yet the central feature of our lives is not seen. It is believed. But we are no less certain. In overcoming his doubt, Thomas travelled further than any of the other Apostles and even to this day the Church in Southern part of India is a vibrant church, earning to this day the best ratio between Priest and the faithful in the world. And if we think there is nothing novel about a faith two thousand years old, a visit here would prove otherwise. Jesus who was seen by Thomas is the same-yesterday, today, and forever.

The Importance of the Feast of Mercy
The first revelation of Jesus in His mes-sage of Divine Mercy to St. Faustina on 22nd February 1931 was to say how much He desired mankind to avail of the infinite mercy of God on earth and this was why He was establishing the Feast of His Mercy. So, the Feast of Mercy was the first revelation in the message of Divine Mercy and is consid-ered the first and most important ele-ment of the whole devotion. In fact, He attached such importance to the Feast of Mercy that in the 43rd revelation, He stated, “I desire that My mercy be worshiped, and I am giving mankind the last hope of salvation; that is, recourse to My mercy. My Heart rejoices in this Feast”. (Diary 998) The Image of The Divine Mercy represents the risen Christ
whose hands and feet bear the marks of the Crucifixion. When
asked about the meaning of the spot light like rays from His
pierced Heart, Jesus explained, "The pale ray stands for the Water
which makes souls righteous. The red ray stands for the Blood
which is the life of souls. ... These two rays issued forth from the
very depths of My tender mercy when My agonized Heart was
opened by a lance on the Cross" (Diary, 299).

UNIRSE A LA COMUNIDAD DE CREYENTES
¿Qué te ayudará a tener fe? Las lecturas bíblicas de hoy hablan de la fe y de la duda. Se “escribieron… para que ustedes crean”, como nos dice hoy el pasaje del Evan-gelio de san Juan (20:31). Tiene esto una cierta urgencia. En este Segundo Domingo de Pascua se nos lanza un de-safío a unirnos a la comunidad de creyentes –un sinnúmero de hombres y mujeres que dan testimonio del poder de la fe de los Apóstoles.
No hay duda que este poder viene de Jesucristo. La segunda lectura, del libro del Apocalipsis, relata la visión mística de Juan sobre el Hijo del Hombre, el cual procla-ma: “Estuve muerto y de nuevo soy el que vive” (Apocalipsis 1:18). El Evangelio reúne a todos excep-to a Tomás para ver a Jesús resucitado y recibir de él el Espíritu Santo. Al igual que Tomás, los que hemos llegado más tarde debemos tener fe para poder tener vida.

Our Sacramental Life
Baptism: Please call the Rectory well in advance of the expected day of
Baptism to arrange an appointment for an interview. Pre-baptismal meeting for parents is required. Godparents must be confirmed, practicing Catholics.
Generally Baptisms are celebrated the third Sunday of each month at 12:00 pm.
Reconciliation: Confessions are heard from 4:30-5:00 pm on Saturday.
You may also make an appointment with Fr. Tom. Spanish confessions is
available on 1st Fridays of the month at 7 PM and from 12:30–1:00 PM on Sundays.
Marriage: Marriages should be arranged at least six months in advance.
Participation in Pre-Cana is essential. Please call the Rectory to schedule an
appointment with Fr. Tom.
Anointing of the Sick: Before you enter the hospital for elective surgery
or other serious treatment, and for those who have need of spiritual healing. In an emergency, call Fr. George Torok 845 323 .1346
Holy Orders: Any gentleman interested in exploring the question of voca-
tion to the priesthood or the permanent diaconate should contact Fr. Tom
Kunnel. We would also be happy to direct anyone interested in living their
lives as Religious Sisters or Brothers.
Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults: For instruction for Baptism,
Confirmation and Eucharist for adults and to learn about Catholic Faith. If interested please contact Dcn Robert Pang.

Parish Registration: All adults (over age 21) should register in the parish themselves and should use envelopes or parishpay.com. Tithing is 5% of income. This registration is our only means of certifying anyone as a member of the parish, especially for Baptism and Confirmation sponsorship
