What is entitled the “Sermon on the Mount” in Matthew’s Gospel has become the “Sermon on the Plain” in Luke’s gospel today. Luke reaches out immediately to all the followers of Jesus and addresses them in a personal way. “Blest are you poor.” It is important that Scripture be adapted to the circumstances of daily life. May we always hope in the Lord and meditate on His word and so be drawn into the personal mystery of His goodness.

. "I am excited to announce, and It is our pleasure at St. John the Apostle, to welcome a new staff member. As you may be aware, Arlene has retired from her office manag-er position here. Sara has graciously stepped in to help on Thursdays and Fridays for a few weeks, until we find someone else. Our new staff member is Claudia Gruett. She has offered to share a little bit about herself in this bulletin. Claudia will be working Friday evenings and some Saturdays in the parish office. In Christ, Fr. Rosenbaum."
Greetings to all St. John The Apostle’s parishioners. My name is Claudia Gruett, I am originally from Peru, a mom of two kids, one in college and a ten month old baby. I have been part of this community for almost 5 years. I have worked at Saints Peter and Paul church in Naperville and also have been a volunteer as a catechist at St. Alexander’s. I am very happy to be able to serve at St. John the Apostle, being able to speak English and Spanish as well. I will be working in the parish office on Friday evenings and some Saturday after-noons. Our guest speaker (6:30-7:00 PM) will be Micki Gorski, her topic will be “keeping us healthy and safe as we grow older”. Micki, a parishioner, has had 35 years of experience in the Physical Therapy field, most recently as Manager of Nova Care located in the Formula Fitness Club in Elmhurst. All Parishioners of the Parish are welcome to attend this seminar, I am sure all will benefit from this. At 7:00 PM are regular monthly meeting will begin. Jerry Ignatius

Fr. Doug Leonhardt, SJ will be the Retreat Master for the weekend at Bellarmine Jesuit Retreat House in Barring-ton. Fr. Leonhardt has extensive experience in directing the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola and is presently working as Jesuit Superior for the St. Camillus assisted living community for Jesuits in Milwaukee.
Beginning on Friday night with a social and dinner, the retreat includes talks, a personal conference with a Spir-itual Director, meals and concludes on Sunday with Mass
and lunch. In addition, you will have the opportunity to follow the Way of the Cross, pray the Rosary, receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation or simply enjoy the beauty of the retreat campus. The Diocese of Joliet is mailing infor-mation about the 2019 Catholic Minis-tries Annual Appeal (CMAA) to all regis-tered parishioners this month. As you know, the CMAA supports 30 ministries that benefit every parish in the diocese, including ours, and the Signs of Hope to our brothers and sisters most in need. Our parish’s goal for the 2019 CMAA is $24,000. Please remember that 70 per-cent of any amount we raise over goal will be returned to us for our use. This is a great opportunity for our parish! Please review the materials you receive and prayerfully reflect on your gift to this year’s annual appeal. If you do not receive a mailing from the diocese about the CMAA, please con-tact the parish office.
Adult Confirmation Classes / Clases de Confirmación para adultos 2019 Are you an adult Catholic, 18 years or older, who has not been confirmed? St. John the Apostle Parish will be offering Adult Confirmation classes which include 4 ses-sions scheduled on Sundays -- February 24; March 3; March 10; March 17, 2019 from 10:00 – 11:30 AM in the Parish Library. You will need to bring copies of your baptism and First Communion certificates to the first session. Adults will be confirmed at the Cathedral of St. Raymond in Joliet on Sunday, April 28, 2019.
