JOSEPH CATHOLIC SCHOOL GAME DAY 6 SEPTEMBER 23, 2016 FOOTBALL SUMMARY St. Joe Fighting Irish vs Lee Academy IRISH GLAD TO BE HOME IRISH 3-2 HOST LEE COLTS 1-4, WHO UPSET NORTH DELTA LEAGUE CHASING INDIANOLA e Greenville St. Joseph Irish leſt the Shillelagh Trophy in Madison Friday night by virtue of a 24-13 loss to the 2-A Madison St. Joe Bruins, now 5-0 on the season. e Irish gave the Bruins their stiffest competition on the year, only to suffer loss two on the Irish year. e only consolation is the Irish opportunity to return home to district play against 1-4 Clarksdale Lee Academy. e 3-2 St. Joseph Irish were in the game for the distance against Madison St. Joe; however, a lacking ground game and costly miscues and penalties sealed the loss. Quarterback Brice Johnson tossed the ball for 130 yards going 12 for 22, including 2 interceptions. Leading Irish receivers were Tre Adams 5 for 45 yards and Reggie Cotton 2 for 62 yards. Brice Johnson also ran the ball 11 times for 51 yards. Defensively, Jo Jo Sanders had 13 tackles, followed by D.J. Washington and Peyton Wilkerson each with 6. Kendrick Ford had 5 tackles. e Irish, now 3-2 on the campaign, return home to face 1-4 Clarksdale Lee, who scored a major upset last week in defeating an ever-scrappy, district foe North Delta. To accompany that one win, Lee has lost to formi- dable opponents Magnolia Heights, Manchester, Pillow, and Heritage. Lee has yet to win on the road. e Lee Colts have scored 36 points on the year, while giving up 163. e home-standing Irish have scored 162, while allowing 60 in all games. e MAIS AAA District One again is chasing the Indianola Colonels, perfect on the season 5-0 and in league play 2-0, as well. Also in the district, Lee is 1-0, St. Joseph is 1-1, as is North Delta. In the regional playoff pic- ture depicted by overall records, IA tops the race followed by Central Hinds, Columbia, and Heritage all at 4-1. Adams Christian, Centreville, Manchester, and Simpson are 3-2, as Natchez Cathedral is 2-3 and Vicksburg St. Aloysius is still winless.
