On Sunday we honour our mothers and grandmothers, those women who, whether they're tied to us by blood or bonds of friend-ship and respect, have nurtured us. It seems fitting that Mother's Day this year falls on Good Shepherd Sunday. The love of the women in our lives is an echo of the biblical way of shepherding. The Good Shepherd knows our individual strengths and weakness-es. Word of God in a nutshell: Paul and Barna-bas (First Reading), in the face of jealousies, and expulsion by the Jews, reach out to the
Gentiles with the good news of salvation. Those who accept the good news will find joy, and the Psalm praises God the Shepherd, the source of this joy. John, in the Second Reading, describes a vision of God, as Lamb, shepherding his people of every nation and leading them to springs of living water and wiping away all tears from their eyes. Challenge: Are you listening to the Shepherd’s voice and do you attune your hearing to the sound of his voice and the message it imparts?
Message from Archbishop Anthony Fisher OP - Re Federal Election: As you prepare to vote, I encourage you to read the Catholic Archdiocese of Syd-ney’s Federal Election Guide. The Federal Election will take place on Saturday 18th May. As Catholics, we need to be especially concerned about the dignity of the hu-man person from conception until natural death, and about the common good of the community. While this guide doesn’t tell you how to vote, I hope it helps inform your decision based upon the position major and minor parties have taken in 3 key areas of concern: Religious Freedom, Education and Care for the Vulnerable. In this elec-tion, it is important to carefully consider who receives your vote in the Senate, and I hope the guide assists you in making that choice.

Youth Festival in Melbourne - Youth aged 18-35 are being invited to participate in the CHOSEN conference in Melbourne from 4 - 7 July. The con-ference will be held at Sacred Heart Girl’s college in Hughesdale and feature youth rallies, talks, workshops, theatre, Eucharistic celebrations, a vocation and mission expo and live music.
