December 29th, 2013 - Holy Family of Jesus, Mary, Joseph

From Fr. Suresh TODAY’S READINGS:

First Reading: Sirach 3:2-6, 12-14

Psalm: 128:1-2, 3, 4-5

Second Reading: Colossians 3:12-21

Gospel: Matthew 2:13-15, 19-23

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION:

“Let the peace of Christ control your hearts; let the word of Christ dwell in you richly.” - Colossians 3:15a, 16a

THE HOLY FAMILY… LET GOD SHOW US THE WAY!

"Rise, take the child and his mother, flee to Egypt." What a dream! Or was it a nightmare? To be commanded to take

flight like refugees in the night, to have a newborn baby and no time to pack or plan, all this must have been frightening

to say the least.

Joseph was no stranger to life-changing dreams though. He had already been told in a dream to take Mary as his wife,

even though she was with child. He had planned to divorce her, but the dream completely changed his course. And now

God was asking him to change course again, to relocate his family and live as aliens in a foreign land, under the

shadow of Herod's headhunt for their son. But Joseph accepted these trials, placing his trust in God.

Although few of us have dreams like Joseph did, we do share with him the challenge of reconciling our plans with the

hard facts of reality. When things don't go our way, we can respond with bitterness, or like the Holy Family, we can

recognize an opportunity to deepen our faith in God's providence.

The holiness of this family did not prevent them from suffering. Rather, their holiness kept the suffering from over-

whelming them. Even with the twists and turns in their path, they never got lost. Their faith in God was like a spiritual

compass that kept them oriented in the most unfamiliar circumstances. When we too are called to change course in life,

may we remember to let God show us the way.

“Christmas 2013 offering”. Thank you to all those who have already done so! Those who do not regularly use

offertory envelopes may use the envelopes provided at the church entrance. Thank you!

Protect and bless all of us,both absent and present, and be merciful to those departed.

O Mary, loving Mother of Jesus, and our Mother, pray to Jesus for our family, for all the families of

the world, to guard the cradle of the newborn, the schools of the young and their vocations.

O Joseph, holy Guardian of Jesus and Mary, assist us by your prayers in all the necessities of life.

Be present at the pillow of the sick and dying so that we may

all be united to Jesus and Mary and you for all eternity. Amen.

THANK YOU TO ALL THOSE WHO HELPED

TO MAKE CHRISTMAS SO BEAUTIFUL!

A HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who helped to make our Christmas celebrations so special, joyful and faith-filled!

Thank you to all of the volunteers and our facilities team who cleaned and decorated the inside and outside of our

three churches!

Thank you to the St. Ignatius Catholic Women’s League, our parish staff, the organists, choirs, cantors, and all the

readers, ushers, altar servers and Eucharistic ministers for all that they did before, during and after the Masses to

help everything flow smoothly!

Thank you to all who have generously contributed to our Christmas offertory collection so far over the past few

weeks! God loves a cheerful giver!

SCHOLARSHIP FUND —

17 YEARS ASSISTING FAMILIES WHO

NEED HELP WITH SCHOOL TUITION!

The St. Ignatius/Dorothy Rice Memorial Scholarship Fund

assists families who are not able to afford the full tuition

at St. Ignatius School (which averages about $9000 per

year). Each year we help to keep children in our school

who otherwise couldn’t afford a Catholic Education. The

average child in this programme receives about $200 per

month off the fees and in return the families volunteer at

several school/parish events during the year.

Donation envelopes are available at the front entrance

of the church or in the church office.

Donations can be dropped in the collection, sent in by

mail or dropped off at the church office. If paying by

cheque, please make your donations payable to:

St. Ignatius-SAYM.

Please consider the Scholarship Fund from time to time

when doing your charitable work during the year!

Many thanks to all those who have contributed to the

fund over the years and in recent months. May the Lord

continue to bless you for your ongoing generosity!

For further information, please contact Jeremy Rice in the

parish office via e-mail [email protected] or
