We are blessed to exist in a reality that is charged with the grandeur of God. As we grow, live and share with one another, we can come to a profound knowledge of our place in God’s design. Some of us are excellent at sensing things that are invisible while others of us excel at noticing even the smallest detail of visible things. A marvelous Old Testament insight from the prophet Isaiah presents God proclaiming, “Do not seek me in chaos, I have created the world as a place to be lived in!” We are to live knowing God is in charge. A consistent temptation in most of our lives is to think that we can control every aspect of our lives. Even more tempting, and even more destructive, is to think we can control the lives of others. As we pray the Lord’s Prayer each day or each week, we pray that God’s will be done on earth as it is in heaven followed shortly by the request that we not be led into temptation. This wonderfully constructed prayer of Jesus can help us remember that God is in charge and that we need God’s help, daily, to keep focusing on our call to service and mercy as members of the Body of Christ. Week of October 9, 2016

Twenty-Eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time

We believe in God, the Creator of all things visible and invisible. We

are blessed to exist in a reality that is charged with the grandeur of God.

As we grow, live and share with one another, we can come to a

profound knowledge of our place in God’s design. Some of us are

excellent at sensing things that are invisible while others of us excel at

noticing even the smallest detail of visible things. A marvelous Old

Testament insight from the prophet Isaiah presents God proclaiming,

“Do not seek me in chaos, I have created the world as a place to be lived

in!” We are to live knowing God is in charge.

A consistent temptation in most of our lives is to think that we can

control every aspect of our lives. Even more tempting, and even more

destructive, is to think we can control the lives of others. As we pray the

Lord’s Prayer each day or each week, we pray that God’s will be done

on earth as it is in heaven followed shortly by the request that we not be

led into temptation. This wonderfully constructed prayer of Jesus can

help us remember that God is in charge and that we need God’s help,

daily, to keep focusing on our call to service and mercy as members of

the Body of Christ.

PLEASE BE GENEROUS TO OUR HAITI MISSION IN THIS WEEK’S COLLECTION! Help us continue to build and strengthen our relationship with our twin parish of St. Michael the Archangel in Coq Chante, Haiti. Your donations provide health care, education, water, sanitation, farm animals and other efforts at our twin parish. Your generous offerings and prayers show your support for the many good works

done through our Haiti mission and the people of Haiti. Pick up a brochure about the WNY Haiti Connection and their projects at the back of church to learn more!

BREAKING NEWS! Father Dan Lusch, SJ has informed us that he will soon be moving to a Jesuit residence near Boston, MA. After the Mass, we will have a pot luck reception for him in the parish hall. Please sign up in the Gathering space if you will attend the reception, and let us know what type of dish you plan to bring. Thank you!

OUR MISSION OF MERCY We ask our St. George family to be generous as possible, so we can fulfill our mission of mercy as we journey in faith together. Last week’s Sunday Offerings totaled $3,362.00, and offerings for Christ the King Seminary now total $1800.00! Offerings for Maintenance and Capital Improvements were $610.00.

We greatly appreciate your continuing generosity! SOCIETY OF ST. VINCENT DE PAUL In today’s Gospel we hear that only one of those healed returned to glorify God and to give thanks to God. It is true, that when we have a grateful heart we know that everything is a gift from God. To give thanks for all that God has given to you, have you considered answering the call to help serve the poor by joining the Society of St. Vincent de Paul? God bless all.

WE NEED ALTAR SERVERS FOR OUR WEEKEND MASSES! Adults and Children (in grades 4 and up), will you help? Jack Shanahan and members of our St. Vincent de Paul Society are offering a training session on Saturday, October 15th from 10:00 am - noon. Current altar servers are also encouraged to attend for a "tune-up" and to encourage and support the servers-in-training. Please sign up in the Gathering space.
