Dear Parents and Friends of St Francis, Thank you to everyone for your kind thoughts and well wishes over the past few weeks. Being sick is not something I am used to, and being told to slow down and rest up was as foreign as Hawthorn not being in this year’s grand final. The viral infection that took hold certainly knocked me for six and had had its way with me for several days. However, getting sick makes you even more grateful for when you are in good health. There have been some nasty bugs going around at the moment and continue to cause illness within our community. If you or your children are feeling unwell please take the time to recover, get well, listen to your body and especially to those giving advice. To all those at GV Health thank you for your care. Thanks also to our staff and Veronica Williams for going above and beyond over the past few weeks. We have a wonderful staff who work tirelessly to support one another, our students and our school. Best wishes to all students undertaking their year 12 exams. It’s a stressful time for many students and families in our community and our thoughts and prayers are with all those who have commenced their exams this week. Good luck. The community reading day last Monday was a huge success and our students really enjoyed participating in this great community event. Reading has been a focus of improvement across our school and the annual community-reading day reinforces the importance and fun of reading. We continue praying for Fr Chris and Ella Wilson. A few reminders… * No school next Monday or Tuesday; * New School Bell times will be changing on Monday 7th November ~ 1st Bell 8:45am Whole School Reading Time ~ 2nd Bell 9:00 am Classes Commence.

Enjoy a great long weekend everyone.

MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL

This week our Positive Behaviour Blitz is Responsibility.

Responsibility is the ability to look after a person or thing and being prepared to take the blame if something goes wrong. It is an indication of maturity, reliability and trustworthiness. It also includes the ability to take on duties, or be the instigator of a task or project. In its simplest form, responsibility means “making your own decisions”.

In Week 3 our Social Skills Blitz was around Responsibility. The following

students were nominated by their peers and teachers as displaying positive behaviour last week:

Tennille Kautai, Scarlet Wilson, Archer Backway, Jack Myers,

Charlie Dietrich, Zara Limbrick & Ryan Dealy Winner of the care box was Clancy Baker

SOCIAL SKILLS BLITZ

Next Friday, 4th November 2016 we will be launching our final fundraiser for 2016, a Thermomix Raffle. First prize is a Thermomix (valued at $2,000.00) OR a $2,000.00 voucher to be spent at any business/s with a Nathalia postcode. We will be holding a demonstration of the Thermomix in the school library next Friday evening commencing at 7.00 p.m. where you will get to see what this amazing piece of equipment can do. There are a limited number of raffle tickets for sale at $20.00 each. A flyer has been sent home today – please feel free to invite family and friends who may not be connected to St Francis. For catering purposes please let Lonky know if you are able to attend the launch.

What is bullying? Bullying is when someone:

• keeps picking on you again and again and tries to make you feel bad

• says or does lots of mean things that upset you • makes fun of you a lot • tries to stop you from joining in or make others not like you • keeps hurting you such as hitting or punching you. •

Bullying feels awful. You feel like you can't stop it.

Bullying can happen in person or online (sometimes called cyberbullying). It might be something other people can see or it might be hidden.

Sometimes you might have a fight or argument with someone. If it happens once, it is not bullying even though it can be upsetting. It is also not bullying if you sometimes fight with a friend and you can sort it out.

Bullying is not okay. You have the right to feel safe.

If you don't feel safe, get help right now from your mum, dad, teacher, or another adult who will listen to you!
