Gospel: Mark 16:15-20 “Go into the whole world and proclaim the gospel to every creature.” Gospel Teaching: This Gospel reading is the end of Mark’s Gospel. At the beginning, Jesus tells the Apostles to spread the Word throughout the whole world. They are to teach what he has told them and to baptize those that believe so they will be saved. During their travels, there will be signs among those that believe including driving out demons, speaking new languages, protection from things that may harm them and healing of the sick. When He stopped speaking, He was taken up into heaven to be at the right hand of God. The Apostles did as He had said, preached everywhere and had the Lord working the signs through them.

ARE YOU FAMILIAR WITH FAMILY

PROMISE?

Family Promise is an organization that houses homeless families in various

Beaufort County churches. Host churches rotate families on a weekly basis. St. Francis is a support church for Christ Lutheran and Grace Community by providing meals or acting as overnight hosts. It takes many volunteers to provide the needed services. Homelessness is very sad, but to be homeless with children is even sadder. We are in need of additional volunteers willing to provide meals or stay over night. This is a very worthy ministry and you will only be called 3 or 4 times a year. Please consider volunteering.

For more information call Ann Parker 843-681-881

The Liturgical Year: Easter Faith to Pentecost Mission As we continue our formation between Easter faith and Pentecost mission, Jesus is reassuring us that though his physical time on earth is complete, his active pres-ence in the Holy Spirit is the soul of the church and the driving force within the hunger and thirst for justice in the world today.

“The Advocate, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in my name -- he will teach you everything and remind you of all that I told you" (John 14:26).

This Gospel passage reminds us that we are in a transitional period in the liturgical calendar. For almost 50 days we have been reflecting on Easter and the presence of the risen Jesus with the early church while also pre-paring for Pentecost (May 20), when his physical presence will cease and the Holy Spirit will enter us and internalize everything Jesus has taught us. Pentecost is how we will learn this mystery, which must take hold in our hearts before it makes sense in our minds and in our actions. Pentecost is the birth of the church, the body of Christ in history, to the end of time and the ends of the earth. How blessed are we who have been called to be disciples of Jesus, our human brother, our divine savior, Lord and God.

Many religious traditions encourage the use of a spiritual guide to facilitate and assist believers on the path of spiritu-al growth. What makes a Catholic spiritual director different is that he or she is not a guru whose words are to be obeyed blindly, but rather a companion and resource on your own personal journey of faith.

The following names are Catholic certified spiritual directors in the Beaufort Deanery that have been researched by the Diocese. Each are willing to receive new people for this wonderful service. Marie R. James Phone: 843-757-5107 E-mail: [email protected] Bluffton Area
