Dear Parents and Friends
Welcome back to the final Term for 2015.
I know I often put in our newsletter my thanks and appreciation to those who give their time to our school. I
have been in this position for 3 years now and still I am hearing of people helping out in ways I didn’t initially
realise. I guess this is what comes with living in such a small and close community. Once students leave our
school, past students and parents still have a close connection to our school. So once I again I really want to
thank each and every person in our community who helps out in many wonderful ways – those who are often
seen maintaining our grounds, those who are doing the background work in preparation for the fete with the
organisation of sponsors and the Mystery Holiday, those who help in our school, P&F and Parish fundraisers
and to all of the school community, including staff who put in such a great effort. Can I please ask that if you do
see someone doing something great, say thank you and tell them they are doing a great job. A little praise goes
a very long way.
This term is going to be very busy with events. Next week Cathy Drummond will be conducting singing work-
shops with all students between 9 and 11 on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. On Thursday night, students
will join with students from the Quilpie College to perform at the Hall from 6 pm in a concert held in conjunc-
tion with the Positive Minds Activities run by the Quilpie State College.
The following week on Tuesday 27th October Musica Viva is holding a concert and workshop with our students
at the Shire Hall. On Tuesday night there will be a community concert, Gypsy Tober at 6.30 pm. Students will
also be involved during the night presenting the skills they have learnt in the workshops.
Our annual School Fete will soon be upon us. The social calendar is so full in Quilpie we will unfortunately have
a number of families away. As this is the one major fundraising event for our school we are asking everyone to
pull together. It is a great night and the drawing of the Mystery Holiday is a highlight.
The Quilpie and District Swimming Carnival will be held on Friday 20th November. As this carnival is run by our
school we will be seeking people to assist with setting up, canteen and BBQ.
It is with great excitement that we can share with you the news of our successful application for the Gambling
Fund Grant for the covered area at the front of our school. The P&F has been raising funds for many years
for a project that will benefit our students now and into the future. The area is intended to be a multi-purpose
area for play, assemblies, school and community activities.
As a final word this week I want to acknowledge the efforts of Steve Bennett, principal of Thargomindah State
School and the Thargomindah State School P&F Association for all of the work they have done in the prepara-
tion, fundraising, and running of the Thargomindah Sports Camp. This is a massive undertaking by one school
and is certainly a credit to them all, to have continued this camp over 25 years. I have been to approximately
10 of these camps over the years and this year’s camp was as successful as the best that I can remember. This
year approximately 130 students attended, equalling the attendance of the earlier days, the coaches were of a
very high standard and the organisation superb. All of our students participated with enthusiasm and thor-
oughly enjoyed the week.
Warm regards
Genny

murdered in December 2003 while waiting to catch a bus on the

During November, the Church gives us the opportunity to remember and give thanks for those from our families
and communities who have died.
The celebrations for All Souls on 1 November helps us call to mind those people dear to us who have died. We
pause to remember them and the blessing they were to us. On All Saints day, we remember the Saints, those
men and women of all times and all places who lived lives of exceptional goodness and compassion. We espe-
cially remember St Mary MacKillop, the first Australian to be recognised by the Church for her extraordinary com-
passion.
To celebrate these special days, we invite all families and members of the Parish to gather in St Finbarr’s Church
on Monday 2 November to remember with love and celebrate with thanks All Souls and All Saints.
As part of the ritual, each person attending is asked to
recall the name of someone they would like to pray for
as the light a candle in his/her memory.
“I light this candle in memory of…………”
On that same day (2 November) we will gather in the
Mary MacKillop Room for our celebration of World
Teachers Day. World Teachers Day celebration will
commence at 11.30am and Morning Tea will be
served after the prayer service.
We invite you to be part of these times of remem-
brance and thanks

3 - 6 Class News Term 4. WOW! This year has flown by. We have had many things happen since our last newsletter.
Thargomindah sports camp
All of the 3-6 students loved the week we had at Thargomindah. They participated in 6 different types of sports. These included; Rugby
league, Indigenous games, Tennis, Softball, Swimming and Netball. The students had fun meeting new friends and catching up with old
ones. It is a fantastic week.
Newspaper articles
This term in English we are looking at newspaper articles. We will be writing articles as a class and the students will have an assignment
in the middle of term where they will be creating a newspaper article and the front page of a newspaper. The students are very excited
and some have already come up with some awesome topics they could write about.
Parent teacher interviews
Thank you to all of the parents who took the time to have a parent/teacher interview with me this week. It is great to be able to show
off some of their child’s results from the past term.
Visitors to our classroom
On Monday and Tuesday this week we had two special visitors to our classroom. Erin and Ethan Forbes were in Quilpie and decided to
come and join our class for the two days. They are from Perth and they have been doing their own school work and also seeing what we
do in our classroom. They think it’s funny how we say “cool” .
Swimming
Swimming started on Friday last week and the students were very excited to get back into the pool after a few months break. Please
remind students to bring their swimming togs, goggles, towel and a swim shirt on Fridays.
Until next time…
Miss Taylor
Thargo Sports Camp was a huge success again this year with 26 out of our 30 students
attending all the way from Prep to Year 6. Hayden enjoyed the Indigenous Games including
throwing the Frisbee and the Vortex, Catherine enjoyed learning about all 6 of the differ-
ent sports, Cody said the food was really great and had a ball during the water fights with
the coaches on the last day, Anna enjoyed meeting new people and making new friends,
Georgia and Mia Mason enjoyed the swimming with the blue boat and learning about
water safety, Ardie liked the Indigenous games especially the kangaroo game where they
threw tennis balls at a big bag which was supposed to be the kangaroo and Mia Haylock
enjoyed the softball and learning how to catch the ball with the softball glove. Here a few
photos of the students participating in football, netball and cricket. More photos have
been uploaded to the School website in News and Events. Check them out!
Congratulations to Toby, Miss
Sarah and Millie who were con-
firmed at St Matthew’s Church
on the 9th September by Bish-
op Cameron Venables and Fa-
ther Geoff Reader. Thank you
to Miss Tina for making the
beautiful cake.
A huge effort was put in to this year’s
Show Display using the theme of Pop-
pies. All staff were involved in some
way and everyone would agree that it
was very impressive. The school work
entered into the show received many
placings across all grades and was of a
very high standard. WELL DONE
