Lots of wonderful events are on the calendar including the Easter Disco, Egg Hunt and Summer Barn Dance. You will be pleased to hear our first social event of 2018, the much anticipated St Faiths Wine and Wisdom, will be taking place soon after Half Term. Full details and ticket information in next weeks flyer. Please do let us know if you'd like to know more about what we do or have fund raising ideas. We have many Virtual Friendswho support us brilliantly, keeping in touch electronically and attending events, even though they cannot make the morning meetings. Any contribution is welcome and appreciated. Have a great weekend. [email protected] [email protected] Young Environmentalists at St Faith's Year 6 Geographers have been studying human impact on the environment at local, national and global levels. They started their topic by looking for evidence of negative human impact in Ash and the surrounding area, and then moved on to looking at wetland and ocean environments further afield. At the start of this unit, it would be fair to say that many of our students had little or no understanding of the scale of the negative impact that humans have on the environment. Thanks to these lessons we have raised awareness of what a number of the issues are and what the children can do to prevent some of these problems. Many pupils have now been inspired to really start thinking about how they can help to look after our planet. So far, the children have created posters to encourage people to take care of the oceans and, most recently, they collaborated to come up with plans for how they think the school site could be developed to be more environmentally friendly. Developing an interest in taking care of the environment is incredibly important here at St Faith's, which is why we try to develop environmental awareness in a number of subject areas and by having our Eco Warriors in Years 2-6 to spread the word about being Eco-friendly. Heads Corner In another exciting week for me, Ive been wearing a number of hats including a football supporter, counsellor, interviewer, nurse, table tennis player and finally a dragon! The children are always full of surprises, energy and enthusiasm, and their willingness to learn and please both inspires me and feeds my passion for St Faiths. Who else could enjoy their job as much as I do?! The weather has been challenging but it failed to curtail the myriad of activities and fun that pervades every corner of our wonderful school. The children are looking longingly at the new trail which will be in action once better weather prevails; hopefully not far away! Money! Money! Money! What should we buy with it? As part of the Global Citizen Curriculum, which is a new addition to all Wishford Schools, Year 2 have been thinking about their needs and wants in life. Naturally after receiving many wonderful gifts at Christmas the subject really made them think deeply and the classroom was buzzing with lots of ideas. It seems that in Year 2 the children are actually quite wise. Summing up the lesson, the children decided that we all need food, water, clothes, a place to stay and most importantly of all LOVE! Although Oliver B still wants an iPhone even though he knows he doesn't need it!!

Thanks to everyone that attended the Friends meeting this morning; what a great team we have. Lots of wonderful events are on the calendar including the Easter Disco, Egg Hunt and Summer Barn Dance. You will be pleased to hear our first social event of 2018, the much anticipated St Faith’s Wine and Wisdom, will be taking place soon after Half Term. Young Environmentalists at St Faith's

Year 6 Geographers have been studying human impact on the environment at local, national and global levels. They started their topic by looking for evidence of negative human impact in Ash and the surrounding area, and then moved on to looking at wetland and ocean environments further afield. At the start of this unit, it would be fair to say that many of our students had little or no understanding of the scale of the negative impact

that humans have on the environment.

Head’s Corner

In another exciting week for me, I’ve been wearing a number of hats including a football supporter, counsellor, interviewer, nurse, table tennis player and finally a dragon! The children are always full of surprises, energy and enthusiasm, and their willingness to learn and please both inspires me and feeds my passion for St Faith’s.

Weekly Sport Report This week has seen the start of the Spring Term fixtures and the Football teams were in action in Dover and Deal League games against Sibertswold Primary School. Both the boys and the girls were in good positions in the league standings having won most of their games so far. However, this was not to be our day. The boys quickly discovered they were up against a very strong Sibertswold side and, despite trying their best, on this occasion, were not a match and lost. The girls had a closer game with chances at both ends. However, this time Sibertswold had the clinical finishing that enabled them to record a 0-2 win. Players of the match went to Scarlett Fletcher and Freddie Bickley.

On Wednesday the U11 Netball teams had their first matches of the season at Northbourne Park. On a horrible wet and windy afternoon, the girls were forced to play inside but this created a fantastic atmosphere for the 2 games. The 1st

Team had a close and high scoring match. At half-time the teams could not be separated as the score was 7-7. However, St Faith’s stepped it up in the second half and eventually won 9-12 with 8 goals from Henrietta Jeer. The Development Team game was equally as tight, the score was 1-1 at half-time, and once again St Faith’s stepped up a level in the second-half to win 2-3 with all the goals scored by Olivia Bywater. Players of the match went to Olivia Bywater and Chloe Solley. Next week the girls have Netball matches against Wellesley House and St Lawrence College. We also have the ISA mixed Hockey tournament to compete in on Friday where we will be looking to retain the trophy we won last year.

MUSIC Congratulations to Alexandra, Krish, Kuda, Noah, Isabella, Ayshia and Poppy who were all successful when we hosted Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) examinations in December. Here they are proudly showing off their certificates. All the children have done extremely well, but a special mention must go to Krish who achieved a distinction for Grade 4 - a first for St Faith's.

Able Maths Day From finger multiplication to factorials and from problem-solving to Pi, four of our budding mathematicians were really put through their paces at the Able Maths day on Tuesday at Hoath Primary School. During a day that covered a wealth of different concepts (including some A Level content), Henrietta, Stanley, Rose and Martin consistently applied and developed their understanding and showed fantastic perseverance when things got tricky!

The group enjoyed learning new multiplication methods, discovering the combination power of the factorial and uncovering that prime numbers are the building blocks of all numbers. However, the most important lesson learnt was the need to ask questions such as: ‘why?’, ‘but what actually is it?’ and ‘what use is it?’ Only by challenging yourself (and your teachers), can you really deepen your understanding!

The pupils were a real credit and thoroughly enjoyed the day. Make sure you ask them to show you their new multiplication method for those tricky times tables!

Wishford Enterprise—Dragons’ Den Wednesday morning’s assembly was transformed into a Dragons’ Den! Our very own Peter Jones, Jenny Campbell and Deborah Meaden were tested today when they were asked to invest in a business company developed by children in Year 6. This was all part of a business competition run by Wishford. The award is organised in conjunction with Jordan Daykin, (the youngest successful participant in BBC’s Dragons’ Den and Managing Director of GripIt), and is open to all Wishford Schools. The purpose of the award is to give up to four groups of children from each school a loan of up to £50, which will allow them to put their entrepreneurial ideas into practice. Using the loan they will gain real-life experience of what it takes to work together, trade and make a profit. All profits made can be reinvested in the students’ businesses, given to their schools or donated to charity. The winning team will receive £1,000 which will be split between supporting a local charity and reinvested in the school or students’ business.

Book Review by Molly Allen—Year 5 The Secrets at Silver Spires—Ann Bryant Silver Spires is all about a boarding school and focuses on a group of best friends. They have adventures and it’s written by a different character each time. There are so many secrets and mysteries that there is always something exciting happening. My favourite character is Naomi – a princess from Ghana - she is very clever and very popular. The great thing about the book is that there are many different characters with different personalities. A bit like school really! I would recommend this book to girls from 8-10 years old and give the series 5 stars!
