TASK 1. READING AND UNDERSTANDING

What is Op Art?

Op Art, short for OPTICAL ART, is a style of visual art that usesoptical illusions. Op Art works of art (obras de arte) are abstract, andmainly created in black and white. Typically, they give the impression of movement, hidden images, flashingand vibrating patterns.

When does OP ART start?

Op art started in the 1960s

Who started Op Art?

It started with the Hungarian (húngaro) artist VICTOR VASARELY. Bridget Riley, and another artist called Jesús Rafael Soto were some of the most important op artists.

What are the characteristics of op art? The most outstanding characteristics of op art are:

• It uses simple geometric figures that combined, form more complex figures.

• Its main objective is to give us visual effects that simulate that they have movement.

• It intends to fool the eye ( intenta engañar nuestra visión de la obra de arte)
