10TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

First Reading:The LORD heard the prayer of Elijah; the life breath re-turned to the child's body and he lived. Taking the child, Elijah carried him down into the house from the upper room and gave him to his mother. Elijah said, "See! Your son is alive." (1 Kgs 17:22-23)

Psalm:I will praise you, Lord, for you have rescued me. (Ps 30)

Second Reading:I want you to know, brothers and sisters, that the gospel preached by me is not of human origin. For I did not re-ceive it from a human being, nor was I taught it, but it came through a revelation of Jesus Christ. (Gal 1:11-12)

Gospel:He said, "Young man, I tell you, arise!" The dead man sat up and began to speak, and Jesus gave him to his moth-er. Fear seized them all, and they glorified God, exclaim-ing, "A great prophet has arisen in our midst," and "God has visited his people." (Lk 7:14c-16)

PASTOR’S CORNER JUNE 5, 2016 10th Sunday in Ordinary Time

In the very difficult economic times of the last few years, many families found themselves relying on resources that they hadnever had to utilize in the past. Some households used their retirement savings or tried to sell their homes after a job loss. Others found themselves grateful for unemployment compensation even if it didn't pay all their bills. Some adult children found it necessary to move back in with their parents, while some families found help from a local food pantry or meal pro-gram-maybe one to which in better times they actually made donations.

In Sunday's Gospel, the widow from Nain has lost her only son. In the time of Jesus, this was not only a personal loss filled

with grief, but also a devastating economic event. There was no one on whom she could rely for support. With her husband

gone and now her only son dead, the woman had nothing. She was in the very worst of straits. That is, until Jesus came along.

Suddenly, the widow had renewed hope, as her son was raised up and restored to her. Her life could go on.

The plight of our neighbors in need today is not so different from that of the widow of Nain. While we might want to have

Jesus walk into town and give them their house or their job back, we know that isn't going to happen. But that doesn't mean

that something can't happen. Indeed, something should! As the followers of Christ today, we are his presence in this world.

When there are people suffering, we are the ones called upon to reach out and help. There might be one or the other among us

who actually can offer someone a job, but most of us will help in other ways. It can be as simple as buying one extra item

every time we go grocery shopping to donate to the local food pantry. We can all help!

God is with us always!

Invest in your MarriageInvest in your MarriageInvest in your MarriageInvest in your MarriageThink of how tired, discouraged and frustrated the apostles must

have been in the Gospel reading today. Then Jesus shows up

and tells them to try one more time. Because they were willing

and obedient, Jesus blessed them abundantly. It works the same

way in our own lives today; if we trust in Jesus and do what He

tells us to do we will receive His abundant blessings! Allow

the grace of God to strengthen, renew and rekindle your mar-

Although we only experienced one bad storm this

year we did not go unpunished. We discovered that the gutters and leaders on the side of the church going over the three alcoves and the confession booths had been damaged. One set came off com-pletely.We put it into our insurance but received very little back. The gutters are copper and the flashing underneath should be copper as well. Apparently years ago it was replaced with aluminum. Over the years alumi-num and copper do not mixed and caused more corrosion. The estimate came in at $9,200.00. This will re-placed the flashing, the gutter and leaders with copper. while fixing they discovered more damage to the tile roof which will lead to another $4,300.00If you can find it in your heart to help off set the cost it would be greatly appreciated. To date we have $3,236.00 in donation thank you for your generosity!
