PASTOR’S CORNER

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ, The birth of Jesus is framed by two important journeys. Joseph went from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to the city of David called Bethlehem…with Mary… (Luke 2:4-5) Then Joseph got up, took the child and his mother by night, and went to Egypt… (Matthew 2:14) There is the journey to Bethlehem and the birth of Jesus and the journey of the Holy Family to Egypt as refugees from the violence of King Herod. These journeys mirror our world and our own lives. Especially in this season, we journey to contemplate the Word made flesh, Emmanuel, God with us at His birth. We are also aware of the perilous journeys of so many who flee violence or who must live surrounded by it. May this season of renewal help us to set our sights on the Lord’s promise to bring us safely home as we make our way to Him. May that promise renew our joy and our hope. God bless you and all your loved ones in this holy season. Archbishop of Chicago

INCREASE STUDENT OPPORTUNITIES The new state program Invest in Kids offers a transformational opportunity for Archdiocese of Chi-cago Catholic Schools through tax credit scholar-ships (TCS). Children in our state from low-income families will have access to new scholarships to at-tend non-public schools . Tax credit scholarships cov-er up to 100 percent of tuition and fees for students for the 2019/2020 school year. Scholarship eligibility is based on a family's income. For example, a student could receive a scholarship if his/her family income is less than $72,900

LOWER YOUR TAX BILL Invest in Kids provides Illinois state income tax credits to individuals and corporations who contrib-ute money to an approved Scholarship Granting Or-ganization (SGO). SGOs are independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations that award scholarships to eligible students from low-income families. Individu-als and corporations may receive a credit for their Illinois state taxes equal to 75 percent of donations to an SGO. Individuals can designate their donation to a school or subset of schools

How To Offer a Mass Intention

Did you ever notice that every Mass said here at St. Edward is offered for a special intention? The entire congregation prays for that intention during the petitions (Prayers of the Faithful) when we say, "For those who have died and for the intention of this Mass: (named intention)."

Masses are often offered for family, friends and relatives that have died. Praying for the dead is a Spiritual Work of Mercy. Offering a Mass for someone that has died is an especially comforting gesture to the family. Mass can also be offered to commemorate joyful occasions and to give thanks to God for blessings received.

The customary offering for a Mass here is $10.00. You can request Mass Intentions online at www.stedparish.org or by visiting the Parish Office during office hours.
