A Word of Thanks from Fr John We have said goodbye to 2018 and

now welcome in 2019; with this in

mind I look back on 2018 and thank

God for the many blessings that He

has poured down on me and the

family of St Dominic’s.

I cannot let the new year start without

thanking everyone who contributed to

making 2018 a blest year: so I thank

all the many different groups that

work so tirelessly throughout the year

to keep the parish running smoothly,

because without the dedication of the

many members and groups, life would

be difficult. So to everyone who has

been involved or who are still to be

involved a big thank you and God’s

richest and many blessings.

I also take this opportunity to thank

everyone for the Christmas gift and

the many other Christmas presents

and Christmas greetings received.

Having said all this I also wish

everyone a very blessed, peaceful and

prosperous year ahead, both in your

homes and in our spiritual home of St

Dominic’s.

Once again, thank you and God Bless

and keep everyone in His loving care.

Our Ministries

Who’s who in the catechetical zoo?

As is customary at the start of every new year, a little ‘moving

and shaking’ takes place among the wonderful moms and

dads, who nurture and teach our children in the formal

aspects of our Catholic faith. Here’s a look at the various

catechetical teams for 2019:

Children’s Church – Coordinated by Karen Peters

Team members are Liz Fenner, Andrea Davidson, Jill Galway,

Megan Palmer, Caryn Du Plessis, Janet Turner, Jacqui Snook

and Keri Strachan.

Junior Catechism – Coordinated by Giselle Koenig

Grade 1: Mbali Makhaye

Grade 2: David Baker

First Reconciliation: Estelle Hughes

First Holy Communion: Giselle Koenig

Edge – Coordinated by Janet Turner

Team members are Bronwyn Swart, Yvonne Howard and

Krissy Cilliers.

LifeTeen – Coordinated by Mike Ronald

Team members are Julie Ronald, Justin Butt, Debbie Butt,

Luke Davis, Kate Swart, Aimee Swart, Dylan Roper, Alex

Marais, Nthombi Msibi and Jo Divall.

Confirmation – Coordinated by Mike Ronald

Team members are Deacon Martin Hughes and Wayne

Redman.

Of course, there is ALWAYS room for more helpers,

teachers and facilitators… you will not be turned away! So

if you would like to join these incredible teams, please

contact our various coordinators or the parish office.

And to the parents of our children… there is only so

much the Holy Spirit can do. He’s provided the

teachers and inspired the programmes – now it’s up to

YOU to get your children to their lessons and mass

every week!

Some of our Edge children enjoying their fun-filled lessons.

Get the edge on Edge!

Edge is our Faith formation programme for any and all

children in Grades 5 to 7. All children of the parish and any

school friends and family members are always so welcome!

It takes place on a Tuesday afternoon from 4 to 5pm in the

Parish Hall.

Our sessions are interesting, interactive and relevant to

the children’s young lives, using a multi-media approach to

our teaching and leading.

We cover real issues – bullying, gossip, social media,

depression etc.

We explain our Catholic practices and doctrine – so

that the children understand how these lead them

closer to Christ

We have Bible Study

We enjoy social interaction and games afternoons

We have prayer sessions

And so much more ...

Our Vision for Edge! Young Catholic Christians dedicated to God, equipped

with knowledge and understanding of God and their

Faith in Him.

Young people who are a key part of our Church and

social community, playing an active role in the life of

the parish and the work of Christ in society.

Catholics living for Christ, not forced by a sense of duty

or obligation, but by a burning desire to deepen their

relationship with their living God.

Joyful Catholics, being the face of Christ to the World!

What did the Edge children of 2018 have to say?

“Why do I love and follow Christ?”

He makes things we believe to be impossible, possible.

He brought me into this world, and helps me when I

need him.

He leads me and sets an example.

He helps me when I am down and through my

struggles.

He helps me when times are tough.

He loves me and is always there for me

He was the only thing that made me happy after ...

He always answers my prayers.

He always shows me the right way.

He blessed me with the best legit Dad ever!

He makes my life better.

I can talk to him whenever and he always listens.

He put me in the best family ever.

He is kind and He knows what to do, and when to do it.

He comforts me and makes me happy.

Because following Him makes me kind and wonderful.

Because He did amazing things, He is faithful and does

the right things.
