Don't worry about how "well" you pray the Rosary. Just pray it. As with anything new, you may stumble at first but it will soon become natural and you'll begin to miss it if

you skip it!

THIRST Each time today’s Gospel story is read, I can’t help but think of the many television commercials I’ve seen depicting perspiring athletes lifting a beverage to their lips while the scorching sun beats down on them. Our culture has definite ideas about how to quench thirst. Today, those ideas are turned upside down. The Samaritan woman operates, initially, on the TV commercial level. She asks Jesus for the flowing water so that she will not have to keep coming to the well. Jesus then talks about what real thirst is, and how he, and he alone, can quench that thirst. Lent calls us to find those places deep within ourselves where we thirst. In our thirst, as did the Israelites, we cry out to God asking for springs of living water. Deep down we know that only the Lord can satisfy these thirsts. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

HEALTH PRECAUTIONS The Archdiocese of Chicago is changing how priests and parishioners interact during Mass to limit exposure to coronavirus amid a possible outbreak. The new guidelines eliminate the use of the chalice during communion and suspend handshaking during the sign of peace. Parishioners are also being advised against holding hands during the Lord’s Prayer, and to avoid using the Holy Water fonts. Priests and other church staff have been told to wash their hands before Mass and before distributing communion.

Bethlehem Nativity Products March 21 and 22 at all Masses

For centuries, the Christian and Catholics in Bethlehem have earned a living by carving olive wood religious art to sell to visiting pilgrims. Fewer pilgrims are visiting journeying to the Holy Land today, making it difficult for Catholic artisans to support their families by the dignified work of Christ’s birth. During our visit to your parish we will have hand carved Nativities scenes, Ornaments, Statues, Crosses and much more beautiful olive wood hand carved religious items. Please consider purchasing a piece of art from the Holy Land to support your fellow Catholics who choose to stay and protect the Holy sites where Jesus himself lived, your purchase will make a difference in the lives of many Catholic families, Please support this noble cause. www.bethlehemnativity.com. We accept cash, personal checks, all credit cards and monthly installment payments as well, Thanks for your generosity.

WEEK AT A GLANCE

Don' t Worry , Be Happy

What's the reason anyone does anything? To get something out of it; a payoff that makes one happy! We work everyday to put food on the table, a roof over our heads, lights, heat, a bed to sleep on... is that enough to make you happy? That's just surviving; it's not enough. The ultimate happiness is knowing you are headed to heaven, and that you've done your best to help others get to heaven too - especially your loved ones! Survival living takes up a lot of time. But you shouldn't ignore spiritual living. Simply weaving spiritual values into daily survival life is a good start: follow the commandments, do unto others, what would Jesus do, etc... But it's the extra stuff that gets you to heaven - spending time in prayer, sharing your talents, sharing your treasure.

My upcoming articles will focus on ways to extend your spiritual life by sharing your talents. Since we attend mass at least once a week, the least time consuming way is to share your talent during mass as a Eucharistic Minister, Liturgical Minister, or Altar Server. There are no meetings to attend, and the training preparation is easy. Every three months, a schedule is posted by email so you know which mass you are assigned. The biggest responsibility is to show up when you are assigned, or notify the rectory if you cannot make an assignment. You can find your own substitute or one can be found for you as long as you give early notice. The biggest difficulty is scrambling at the last-minute before mass to find a substitute. That is why we need more people for these roles so that there is a deep bench with people to pull from in case of last-minute replacements.

Eucharistic Minister - this one is easy. Distribute the host or the cup by first saying "the body, or the blood, of Christ". There are hygienic practices to learn, as well as protocols for spills. If you can walk up to the altar, have a steady hand, and can stand in front of people for several minutes, you are a candidate for this role.

Altar Server - this is for the youth with responsible adults who will faithfully bring them to mass when they are assigned! This requires someone to pay attention and stay focused during mass, to know when to stand in front of the priest, book in hand, when to ring the bell, when to receive the offering. You will learn all the parts of the mass. After formal instructions, you will be assigned first with a veteran to help you learn the duties and responsibilities.

Liturgical Minister - this one is the most intimidating! Standing in front of a silent crowd, many eyes staring at you, can be daunting. The key is to block them out, and just read from the book. Slowly, succinctly, with good pacing, pauses at the right spots. Do not rush, it's not a race. A good lector will have familiarized themselves with the reading ahead of time, read it out loud once or twice, before going up to the lectern. Stumbling on a word or phrase is not uncommon, and not a cause for concern. No one should be judging you, "lest ye be judged yourself"!

Please consider volunteering for one of these roles. We need more people. We don't want the same people every week, and we need a larger pool of people to draw from in case of last-minute replacements. Prayerfully yours, Mark Matias Register with GiveCentral at www.givecentral.com and sign up

to start your weekly Sunday offering online. It’s easy, convenient, and secure. Contact the rectory if you have any questions.
