PRAYING FOR OUR YOUTH One of the most important and powerful things that we can do as people of God is to pray for our youth. It is no secret that one of the primary desires of the devil is to de- stroy the family and thus destroy our children. When the lives and souls of children are damaged or destroyed two generations are destroyed: them and their future children. Even though we admit that there is a battle for the souls of our children we must always remember that we are not helpless. We have many weapons to use against the tactics of the evil one and one of the most powerful weapons is prayer, especially prayer in front of the Blessed Sacrament. It became very clear to me while I was on sabbatical that we should be offering a holy hour in each of our parishes dedicated to praying for our youth. The following times have been set up: St. Joseph, Elk Point, 7-8 am on Thursdays; Blessed Teresa, Dakota Dunes, 4:30-5:30 pm on Thursdays and St. Peter, Jefferson, 7-8 am on Fridays. I am well aware that this schedule may not suitable for all people, but it is very possible for many, especially if you make it a high priority. If you can't come and pray then know that our churches are open many hours of the day. Just stop by and pray when you can. Each Wednesday in Elk Point there is Eucharistic Adoration from 1-8 pm. If you can sign up and commit to a regular time, please do so. If you can't just drop by for a 10-15 minute visit. Ten minutes of good prayer is much better than no prayer. Also remember that at Blessed Teresa there is 24 hour adoration on the first Friday. It be- gins after the Thursday 5:30 pm Mass and ends at the beginning of the Friday 5:30 pm Communion Service. Who should participate in these times of prayer? Everyone who knows people Parents and grandparents who have children who do not practice their faith as they once did Anyone who is a parent, grandparent, brother, sister, cousin or friend Anyone who is concerned about the spiritual state of our young people YOU!! As you are going to prayer for our youth consider doing the following: Call, text or email your children, grandchildren and tell them you are going to Church and pray for them. Ask them if there any intentions they have that they would like you to bring before the Lord. It is amazing how often they will mention something. Get a copy the Prayer for Youth that was handed out last week. Those of you who can attend daily Mass as much as you can. If you can't do the prayer mentioned above pray a DECADE A DAY, that is one decade of the rosary for our youth. If you can, do it in the car with your children. If we would all do this can you imagine what would happen to your young people? They are worth it. MEETING CHRIST IN PRAYER—Learn How to Pray as an Adult As a child, you were taught how to pray. Now that you are an adult, you have probably outgrown some of the ways you prayed as a child. So just how do adults pray? Come and see for yourself. Meeting Christ in Prayer is an engaging eight-week guided prayer experience designed for small groups. By means of prayer, reflection, and faith sharing, Meeting Christ in Prayer introduces participants to various ways of praying, helps them form regular habits of prayer, and provides them with an opportunity to meet Christ anew and to experience support in the Christian life in a new way. It can also inspire a profound sense of mission that urges participants to a new level of discipleship. Partici- pants are asked to commit themselves to meeting once a week for eight weeks and to praying and reflecting daily, using the guided exercises that are provided. No prior expe- rience in praying with others is needed, just a desire to renew one’s faith, enrich one’s prayer life, or become more aware of God’s presence in everyday life. If you are inter- ested in participating please call the office at any parish. Classes will begin the first week in July. One of the classes will begin on Wednesday morning, July 6 at 6:30 pm in Jefferson. If other times work better for you please let us know.

STEWARDSHIP REFLECTION “For you were called to freedom, brothers and sisters. But do not use this freedom as an opportunity for the flesh; rather serve one another through love.” Galatians 5:13 We like to celebrate the fact that we are free to “live the good life.” But Jesus calls us to a different kind of freedom. St. Paul reminds us that Jesus sets us free so that we can serve one another, share our gifts and promote God’s work here on earth to glorify His name and not honor ourselves.

WEEKLY PRAYER INTENTION That all who teach the faith may proclaim that the reign of God is a king-dom in which humans life, at every stage, is welcomed and revered as a supreme gift of God, we pray to the Lord.

A Life Message…. We are invited to a Christian life of patient love. The first part of to-day’s Gospel gives us the greatest passage in the Bible concerning toler-ance, which is really patient love, our “bearing with” one another. Quick anger over little incidents flares up all the time – between parents and children, in the workplaces between co-workers and in the neighborhood between neighbors. Very often the anger explodes over nothing. The Spirit of Jesus is opposed to such feelings. Although Elijah called down the fires of God from Heaven to wipe out the four hundred prophets of Baal, Jesus refused to have fire cast on the Samaritans who refused him entry. Hence, let us have this beautiful prayer in our hearts and on our lips: “Create in me a clean heart. O God, and put a new and a right spirit within me. Restore to me the joy of loving.”
