St Colman’s N.S. Newsletter December 2017 Dear Parents, Happy Christmas. It has been a busy term and over the last few weeks, the children and teachers have been busy preparing for the Christmas season. Well done to the pupils, parents and staff for all the hard work they have done throughout the term. It is time for a well- earned and much deserved rest. The Board of Management are grateful for the continued support and co-operation of the Parents Council and the whole parent body. Thank you to all the parents who made appointments and attended the Parent teacher meetings recently. The Board of Management are very grateful to the parents, staff and pupils for their support for the new morning routine. It is working well, thanks to everyone’s co-operation. Congratulations to Ms Mairéad O’Callaghan on her recent engagement. We wish her and Liam every happiness for the future. Congratulations also to Ms Amy Long and her husband Barra on the recent birth of their baby boy. We wish them well. Welcome to Aleena Aji who recently joined our school. We hope Aleena will be very happy in St. Colman’s N.S. The Staff and Board of Management wish all pupils, parents and families a happy, safe and healthy Christmas. We look forward to seeing everyone back refreshed and eager on January 8 th , 2018. Le Meas, Mary O’Brien. Principal. Dates to remember next term: The school will close for Christmas on Friday, December 22 nd at 12 noon. School will re-open on Monday, January 8 th , 2018. January 18 th – Zeeko Internet Safety talk for all parents (7pm) January 31 st – Grandparents Day February 15 th & 16 th – Mid-term, school closed March 19 th - School closed March 23 rd – last day of term Attendance: The class with the best attendance for October was 3 rd Class (Mr Quinlan) with 97.8% attendance. A great achievement. The winners for November were Junior Infants (Ms Beecher) with 96.7% attendance. Well done. The December winners will be announced on December 22 nd . Zeeko, Internet Safety Talks Zeeko will provide workshops on Internet Safety for pupils in classes 2 nd to 6 th on January 18 th during school time. Staff will participate in a workshop after school and a Seminar for parents will be presented at 7pm that evening. This is a hugely important topic for all adults working with children, to be knowledgeable about. Please make every effort to have every family represented at the seminar. It is relevant for all parents regardless of what class your child is in now. Children are on-line from a young age and parents and children need to be aware of the risks involved and how to avoid the dangers. Grandparents Day: We will celebrate Grandparents day during Catholic Schools Week on January 31 st . Parents will be informed of the details and times in January. Please inform the school if you are going to be late or have asked someone else to collect your child. Please notify the school secretary of any changes to contact details including address, phone numbers and emergency contact details. ParentsAssociation The elves have been so busy since Halloween planning, plotting and preparing for Christmas in their own houses. And still managed to wrap Elf Kisses, Reindeer Noses and Snowman poop etc. for last Fridays Christmas Coffee Morning and Cake Sale. The standard of baking was impressive, what talent we have in St Colman’s NS. Great inspiration for when I must bake for Bun Day in January. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who helped in any way as well as the staff, but also to thank the superstars of the day, the surprise act, 6th class who helped younger children in the Halla make their purchases, hosted tea, sold raffle tickets and went to every class that morning to play fun games with the students. You are a credit to yourselves, your parents and Mrs OKeeffe who prepared you so well to help us on the day. The day wouldn't have been the same without your help. On behalf of the Parents' Association I would like to wish the peace and joy of Christmas into every home, we look forward to the next term and the activities which it will bring. Marine Porter
