The Joe and Marie Glatzmaier Family Baseball Scholarship will be awarded to a member in good standing of an SCSU intercollegiate baseball team, who is a graduate of a Stearns County high school. The award was established by the family of Joe and Marie Glatzmaier of Albany. The Glatzmaier’s have ten children, seven of whom attended SCSU for at least one year. The Glatzmaier name was synonymous with baseball in Stearns County from the 30’s to the 70’s. Three of the sons played for St. Cloud State team’s in the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s. The Glatzmaier family feels good about the education and athletic opportunities they received at St. Cloud State and feel that the scholarship fund is one way to give back to a university that has meant a great deal to them. This scholarship honors their parents who didn’t have the opportunity to attend the university.

The Jerry and Kit Henkemeyer Baseball Athletic Opportunity Grant was established to encour-age high school seniors who are student-athletes in baseball both to attend St. Cloud State University and to participate in the varsity baseball program. Jerry and Kit have been supporters of St. Cloud University in many ways. When Jerry was an undergraduate, he participated in the varsity baseball program. Jerry graduated in 1970, with a B.S. degree in physical education. He also took graduate courses in the Special Education Masters Program. Following graduation, Jerry was employed by the St. Cloud School District as a special edu-cation teacher. Jerry purchased Park Refuse Service in 1978, and operated it together with the St. Cloud Transfer Station until its sale in 1989. Kit graduated from SCSU in 1969, with a B.A. in sociology. She worked for Franklin Manufacturing for several years after gradu-ation. Jerry and Kit are active supporters of the SCSU Athletic Program and attend many athletic events.

The Gregory J. Berling Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually to student-athletes in the St. Cloud State University baseball program. The basic purpose is to motivate recipients in academic achievement while nurturing their athletic talents and capabilities. Gregory J. Berling graduated from St. Cloud Technical High School in 1976. He was a mem-ber of the National Honor Society and lettered in baseball and hockey. From 1977 to 1980 he attended St. Cloud State and was a pitcher and outfielder for the Huskies and was elected co-captain of the team in 1979. He was named to the all-conference team in 1978. Greg was married to Christine Vierzba in 1981. He received a B.A. in biology from Logan Chiropractic College in 1985 and his Doctor of Chiropractic in 1986. He established the Hammer Lane Chiropractic Office in Stockton, California, in 1987. A son, Stephen Lee, was born in 1988. Greg Berling was killed in a helicopter accident April 20, 1989. This endowment was established by Greg's parents, John and Patricia Berling. Former players, coaches, and friends of SCSU base-ball have contributed to this fund.

The Hoelscher Family Pitching Scholarship will be awarded annually to a pitcher in good standing on the SCSU intercollegiate baseball team. This scholarship was established by Gerard and Leslie Hoelscher of Alexandria, hus-band and wife alumni of St. Cloud State University. Gerard and Leslie both earned Bachelor of Science degrees from SCSU

in the late 1970s. While attending SCSU, Gerard was an infielder on the baseball team. Their three sons Mike, Matt and Nathan also attended SCSU and pitched for the Huskies. The Hoelscher family continues to have strong connections to the University. They established this scholarship to give back to the university that has been so good to them.
