So … how are you all doing? Howare you all coping with this stay-at-home-social-distancing-get-your-toilet-paper-while-you-cansituation?

I need a new word, I know, butthe only one that still works forme is the word weird – becausethat’s how it all feels to me:weird. I could add ‘surreal’,‘peculiar’, and ‘bizarre’, but thatdoesn’t really add anything to theTwilight Zone feeling I often havewhen I look out of the window orvisit a store.

I often wondered what it wouldfeel like to go outside wearing amask – but I no longer have toimagine, because it’s a part of life… for the time being?

What we are being asked to do –required to do – is hard for somepeople. To be closed in is to beforced to spend more time withone’s self than many may haveever done before. For many thishas led to a loss of energy – offeeling ‘Blah’ – of not having thewill to do the things you’dnormally do, never mind the willto take on those long-promised‘I’ll do them when I have the timeto do them’ projects.

If you’re an extrovert, you mightwell be kicking against being toldyou cannot meet others (“You’re

not the boss of me!”). For manyintroverts, though …

But, for the more ingenious, crafty, and ‘fix-it’ types this hasbeen the time to do some prettyimpressive and amazing stuff! Youwill see the photos of what StC’speople are doing: from teachingthe dog how to do plumbing toredecorating, creating art pieces, making liturgical vestments, hatsfor preemies – this is just a smallsample of stay-at-home creativity.

Added to this, we still havepeople going out to volunteer –look at the photos of our smallband of Trinity Café helpers.

Hopefully, these photos will notonly inspire some of you to dolike-minded things, but it willraise your spirits to know thatthere is still some level ofnormalcy in society, and thatthings will get better.

And, believe me, I’m part of thechorus that can’t wait for thingsto get better!

One of the things I’ve discoveredabout myself is this: I really donot like being in front of acamera! I’ve enjoyed the processFr. Lewis and I have been goingthrough to get the Servicesrecorded, but the recordingprocess …

Recording the Services as we dois, for me, an unnervingexperience. I really do miss youall, but – weirdly (that wordagain) I miss you all even morewhen we are not doing ‘live

streaming’ – I feel even lessconnected. To this end we aretrying to have a solid internetconnection installed in the churchas soon as possible, and it cannothappen fast enough.

In the meantime, I ask for yourpatience if the video of theService isn’t available exactly at10.30 a.m. on a Sunday, or if it isslow or blurry. There’s a lot that isout of our hands, and evenFacebook and YouTube has a limitto how many people can usetheir platform and maintainquality.

On a different subject: there’sbeen a lot of chatter in the mediafrom certain quarters saying it isso important the economy beopened up we should expectolder people to risk their lives for,I suppose, ‘the greater good’. Icould say a lot about this, but onething will suffice: “Honor yourfather and your mother, so thatyour days may be long in the landthat the Lord your God is givingyou.” Exodus 20:12.

This isn’t merely good advice (justthink of all the experience andwisdom stored in such people)this is a Divine Commandment.

Finally: a huge ‘THANK YOU’ to allour wonderful parishioners forremaining committed and faithfulin your giving, even during thesetrying times. It is trulyappreciated!

Stay Safe,

Fr. Andrew.

Water.

The Bishop was coming to speak at Deanery Synodand everything that could be done to make the eve-ning a success had been done. There were fresh flow-ers on the table, and coffee and cakes prepared.

When the Bishop arrived, however, he was in a crab-by frame of mind. Looking around, he beckoned anervous rector over. “I would like to have a glass ofwater in front of me on the table, if you please,” hesaid.

“To drink?” was the rector’s idiotic question.

“Oh no,” was the sarcastic reply. “When I’ve beenspeaking half an hour about apportionments, I like todo a high dive.”

YAY EASTER!

Which means Aaaaahlaaaaay-loooooyaaaaaaa!!!!!!!

TAKE THAT – the misery known asLent. We can now all rejoice in theknowledge that the Son is Risen, and all is new.

Howdy Peeps!

I hope you’re all as excited as Iam!

No more enforced reduction in ta-ble scraps; no more “It’s Lent,Winston” being given as the ex-cuse for almost everything. AndBella and me – we’re back togeth-er again!!!

(ed: were you ever together, really,Mr. Dog?)

“I luv Bella – and Bella luvs me-hee;

And it’s written on the stump of atree-hee!”

(ed: what? You’ve been carvingyour names on a tree?)

Not exactly‘carving’,dad! ;)

I tell you all of this just to give youa little insight into how somethings are pretty much normal, even as many other things arestrange –even scary.

A scary ‘for instance’: for the firsttime ever, you can loop a video ofFr. Dad preaching – and it’ll go onforever. Just let that sink in for amo.

SCARY!

But there’s a good news ‘for in-stance’, too: for the first time ev-er, you can speed up a video of Fr.Dad preaching – to the point thatit’s a more pleasant Alvin and theChipmunks tone and speed. Ashort sermon and a good laugh atone and the same time!

WIN!

Seriously though …

To be honest, it’s been interestingsitting in on meetings between Fr.Uncle and Fr. Dad. They used upreams of paper trying to work out

how best to ‘work’ the Ser-vices. By the word

‘work’ I mean makeeverything as nor-mal as possible

while rememberingthat it will be seen pri-

marily through a screen.

Fr. Dad’s strength is in au-dio. Having been in aband, and being some-

thing of a geeky-type,it’s fortunate that

he has a gazil-lion audio ca-

bles, DI boxes, sound boards, compressors, and things that go‘ping’. He also knows how to setthem up.

When it comes to video, though.No. Just NO. Fr. Dad = clueless.

But – once again – there is somegood news, for there are a coupleof people he knows who havegreat knowledge in the area ofmoving pictures (shout out to Johnand Erik here – you know who youare!). Because of the general orderto stay at home, or keep a dis-tance from each other, the video-knowledgeable ones never got togo and set things up, BUT theyboth did give Fr. Dad invaluableinsight, and the confidence to try.

And so he did. And he also enlist-ed (some may say ‘threw in thedeep end’) Jay as cinematogra-pher. Jay is the one behind thelens who makes those smooth‘pan and zoom’ transitions.

Has it been plain sailing? Not atall! Trying to lead worship, be aworshipper, and do techy stuff isnot all it’s cracked up to be – andthere have been some disasters. But I have to give ole Fr. Geek hisdue here: he’s been bringinghome and setting up all the gearon the dining room table, betweenServices, and has been testing andlearning so that, each week, thingsmay be marginally better.

There are some other people whoalso need to be mentioned: the‘congregation’ – those few goodpeople who arrive early to prac-

tice the hymns and music, andwho have chosen to endure mul-tiple sermons. And all for you, dear peeps – all for you.

Have you ever been in a bigchurch and heard your voice rat-tle off the walls? I bet youhaven’t – for your natural inclina-tion would be to speak evenmore quietly than normal. But,this small band of worshippersare expected to be heard – theyare expected to lead the congre-gational response.

And – do you know what – theyare expected to do this while notsitting in their usual pews!!!

Imagine THAT, peeps!

Yes – I know – some of you can-not imagine that!

Knowing all the planning, prepa-rations, staging, and exhaustionfrom the inside, so to speak, I’dlove to know what you who viewthese Services are doing?

I believe that the MarvelousMargeaux – Fr. Dad’s brain – isnow emailing PDFs with thereadings and hymns to you all, sothat you can truly follow along. But are you singing along? Areyou mumbling along? Do youwatch the whole Service? Do youpartake in it? Do you get distract-

ed and then go do somethingelse, or do you carve the timeout as a sacred duty?

The scent of which leads us tothe main question: why are yougoing to all this trouble? What’sthe point?

Well, it seems to me that thereare two points: one is to do withGod, and one is to do with peo-ple.

Let’s start with people. Comingtogether – even virtually – is a

bold symbol of community –of recognizing each othereven when you are forcedapart. As Psalm 95:6-7 says:“O, come, let us worship andbow down; let us kneel be-fore the Lord, our Maker! Forhe is our God, and we arethe people of his pasture,

and the sheep of his hand.”

Which leads us to the secondpoint: worship.

Hebrews 12:28: “Therefore, since we are receiving a king-dom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and soworship God acceptablywith reverence and awe …”

You all know that you areGod’s people, so you also knowthat you’ve received so muchfrom Him. So, to spend time to-gether before God, and to thankHim for all He has done and con-tinues to do for you is as much apart of your life as is Sundayshopping for others.

Even during hard times such asthese your instinct is to come

together as the Body of Christ;come to give God His due – evenif the sound quality is a bit ‘ugh’;even when the picture quality isdismal.

Because you are not spendingthis time to be entertained; youare coming before God for oneexpress purpose:

“Ascribe to the Lord the glory duehis name; bring an offering andcome before him!” 1 Chron16:29.

Keepin’ it Real –

even in the Virtual,

Winston.Have you ever beenin a big church andheard your voicerattle off the walls?

To all the people of St. Clement’s foryour faithful support during this time. From all the staff, and the countlesspeople you help without knowing it!

For the first time ever, the Vestry met using onlineconferencing on March 31st. The primary concern was theimpact on finance and how we would be dealing with theCOVID-19 pandemic.

The April 28th meeting was held as a conference call. Themeeting opened with prayer after which Fr. Andrewpresented a series of possible approaches to this year’sBlessing of the Animals (BOTA) given to him by Kit

Ingalls. Although BOTA is a few months away, we need to begin thinking about how to deal withany continuing state and local COVID-19 regulations and orders.

The Senior Warden reported that a Payroll Protection Loan application had been submitted. TheTreasurer noted that pledge payments were slightly behind. Expenses, however, have beenrunning somewhat below normal.

In his latest e-mail, Fr. Stephenshares some good news aboutthe generosity of a Church inGermany towards the childrenand teens. He also shares someinsights into one of the recentBible readings for the Easterseason regarding Thomas andhis doubts. Please check outhis blog by clicking on the linkbelow. Please also continue tokeep Fr. Stephen, Mary andthe youngsters in your prayers!

Dear Praying Friends,

Nothing has changed. We arestill in quarantine although wedid venture out several days toattend some needs of our chil-dren and teens. The good newsis that a church in Germany haspaid for all the children andteens to stay in a hotel for sixmonths at least. There aresome cheap hotels around inthe center. They still have tolook for food. This is why wemet with some of them. Theycalled us to let us know thatthey were running out of foodand we met with them to help

them with it. They keep us upto date with what is happening. They know that we are here forthem if they have any needs. This is the best we can do fornow. They are feeling lonelyand we can appreciate this. Wemet with Felipe this week toofor the same reason. I havebeen encouraging to him toread and gave him some books.Lo and behold, he has beenreading a few pages everyday. We expected to be in quaran-tine until May. However, wewill continue making this shorttrips to the streets weekly tomake sure that our childrenhave what they need.

TRINITY CAFE is still functioning at full-speed ahead in spite of the Covid-19 pandemic....hunger knows no season and if anything, the need isgreater now than ever. As explained in last month's Anchor, they havechanged their method of operation from a restaurant-style service to ato-go style, and on April 25th St. Clement's had two intrepid volunteershelping out at the Nebraska location. All the people working were pro-vided with masks and protective gloves and all CDC safety recommenda-tions were being followed. Of the 8 volunteers who were there (theyreally needed 12) 3 were inside the Cafe putting the hot boxed mealstogether with the fruit and snacks, our own Becky Mack was the "run-ner" who took them outside to the other volunteers, who then gavethem out to the people lining up to receive them. In this way, 200 hotmeals, fruit and snacks, along with bottled water were handed out tothe hungry and homeless. Thank you Becky and Teresa Mack for repre-senting St. Clement's during this difficult time!

Looking to Saturdays in May, at the moment they all have enough volun-teers signed up for each shift. However, I have signed up for May 30thto be put on their Waiting List, so if anyone cancels we will get called tovolunteer. We are booked up to volunteer on Saturday June 27th andwe will see what the situation is by then as far as the pandemic goes.Check the June Anchor for more information!

Just as a reminder.....although you may not be able to volunteer yourtime during the Coronavirus pandemic nor bring food to the Altar duringthe Offertory, you can send donations to Feeding Tampa Bay by going totheir web site. The need for help for our neighbors is enormous duringthis stressful time when so many are out of work and children are notgoing to school, as well as for those who are homeless.

THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO FOR THOSE LESS FORTUNATE THAN YOUR-SELVES!!

Jesus said "Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these mybrethren, you did it to me". Matt.25:40
