Congratulations to the first year boys who reached the all Ireland final in soccer. They boys put in a brilliant performance as they dominated all over the pitch but unfortunately it wasn’t meant to be this time. A special thanks to all the teachers, students and parents who came to support the team. A huge thanks to Mr McDonald and the TYs; Shane Walsh, Jack Kelly and Jack O’Connell who coached the team this year and assistant Shea Kelly. The team consisted of; Shane Conlon, Dylan McDer- mott, Barry McNulty, Matthew Connolly, Evan Broughton, Cathal Óg O’Connell, Eanna Clancy, Alan Kavanagh, Gabriel Gilbride, Patrick Montgomery, Diarmaid Giblin, Alex Dunne, Tarach Ó Snodaigh, Dylan Gilligan, Gearoid O Hagan and Ruairi Power.. Butlers Chocolate Factory T.Ys travelled to Butlers Choco-late factory on Monday 13th March. They were given a guided tour of the factory and learned how chocolate is made. At the end of the tour they got to design their own chocolate ele-phants. The T.Ys would like to thank Ms. O’ Gara and Ms. Nolan for accompanying them.

First Aid Module

On Thursday the 23rd of March two

paramedics and a fireman visited the TY’s

to teach them about first aid. The day

consisted of learning how to aid an open

wound and what procedures to follow if

someone is unresponsive. Later that day

we performed CPR on a Mannequin and

learned the

steps to use a

defibrillator.

Tayto park On the 9th of May 1st and 2nd Year busi-ness classes tour ed the Tayto fac-tory and got to explore the park. They were accompanied by Ms. Gallagher and Ms. Sweeney

Girls active On the 3rd of May all first year girls par-ticipated in the Girls Active Schools event run by Leitrim Sports Partnership and held in the Mayflower Drushambo. They participated in hoopla hooping, boxercise, dance, cycling and Olympic handball. They also went to aqua aero-bics in Ballyshannon Leisure Centre .

Cyber Bullying On Tuesday the 25th of April Mr. Jeremy Pagden the Managing Director of Schools Websites gave a very insightful talk to 1st, 2nd and 3rd year students about Cyber bullying. Jer-emy has been travelling all over the country giving talks to students and par-

ents alike. Some of the topics covered included sexual predators and fake persona, reputation damage, cyber bullying, safe use of apps and social media issues and challenges. Jeremy will return to the school to give a talk to our senior students and also pro-vide an information evening for parents. The talk was thor-oughly enjoyed by all students and teachers. Thanks to Ms Lynch, Madame Mercier and Mr Irwin for organising the event.

Ty End of Year Trip On Tuesday, TYs visited Dublin Zoo as part of their ecological stud-ies. Afterwards, TY's went to Blanchardstown Shopping Cen-tre for some re-tail therapy. TY's would like to thank James Gallagher from Vincent McGovern buses, Ms.Gallagher and Ms.Conaty for accompanying them on the trip.

YSI SpeakOut On Tuesday 28th March, the YSI class in TY pre-sented their project on farm safety in Athlone at the YSI speak out. They acted out possible scenarios that can cause injury or death on a farm and talked about how they had encouraged farm safety. They were accompanied by Ms. Carthy. They were given great praise by the judges for their per-formance.

College Taster Days TY’s took part in taster days to NUI Galway (5th April), IT Sligo (31st of March) and DCU (2nd of May). Students visit-

ing were given a timetable and were able to choose which lec-tures they wanted to attend for the day. Some of the lectures attended included: Political Science and Sociology, Infor-

mation Technology, Psychol-ogy, Mathematics, Film Stud-ies, Business, Spanish, Sci-ence, Civil Engineering, Computer science, Arts and Creative design, and many more. TY students also had some time to explore each of

the campus’ to get a better understanding of each of the colleges.

3rd Years in Derry

3rd year students visited The Grianan of Ail-each / Tour of the Derry- Bogside / Crossed the

Peace Bridge on the 9th of May. They were ac-companied by Ms.Mc Donald and Ms Fahy.

Engineering Facilities in IT

Sligo Mr Cummins accompanied a group of 5th year

engineering students to IT Sligo for a tour of the CNC and Mechatronics lab on Thursday the 30th of March. The group

thoroughly enjoyed the visit.

Spectroscopy in a Suitcase LC Chemistry students were visited by three post graduate chemistry students form UL who were facilitating a Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) programme to bring travel-sized spectrometry equipment into school laboratories as schools would not have such facilities. Students learned how much information about the identity and concentration of chemical substances is re-vealed by their interactions with infrared light. Under the guidance of Amrit, Dipali and Pauric they constructed a calibration curve and identified an unknown sample. We Thank the UL students for the work-shop and for sharing their education path-

ways in Chemistry.

Easter Egg Fun Ms. Carden's TY Event Man-agement class organised an Easter Egg Hunt for 1st year students on the 6th of April, the last day before the Easter holidays. 1st year stu-dents in the best performing teams were awarded Easter Eggs and all of the students also received lots of goods.

St. Angela’s Academic Awards

2017 Congratulations to the following junior certificate students who were acknowl-edged by St. Angela’s Col-lege for their academic work in the following areas: Aoife McLoughlin. (Irish), Shannnon Kilkenny. (Science), Yvonne Dolan. (Mathematics), Tara Fitzgearld. (English) and Laura Fowley. (Home Economics).

Motivational Speaker On Tuesday, 25th March Moti-vational Speaker Mark Mullin-gan gave a talk to TY’s organ-ized by Ms. Cunningham. They talked about different fears and phobias and how overcoming them will make life more enjoy-able.

Build a Bank

Build a Bank would like to thank all their loyal customers who supported the ‘Bank without Borders’ team.. Congratulations to Donnacha Devaney who won a tablet for being a regular saver with Build a Bank .

TYs Dissections

Transition Years have been busy dissection various animal organs as part of their applied biology module with Ms.Conaty. One group were lucky enough to be gifted with a lambs lung set including all the or-gans of the animal from the heart to the kidneys and also the intestines. This made for interesting but quite smelly learn-ing !

Olympics Well done to Megan lee who won a bronze medal in a badminton competition hosted by the Special Olympics.

hearts On Friday the 12th 5th year LCVP class sold hearts around Manorhamilton fundraising for the Irish Heart foundation.
