St. Claire Foundation Host s Annual President ’s Luncheon
Hal Bledsoe (Director of Biomedical Engineering) and Karen Bledsoe (Director of HomeCare), pictured with Mark J. Neff (SCH President/CEO), are two of the newest members of the St. Claire Society’s Life Members level.
"This year's St. Claire Society honorees are illustrative of the broad specturm of our givers. We advanced a long-time annual giver, a couple of veteran St. Claire HealthCare staff members who lead by example, a community business that supports our commitment to charity care and a respected educator who used planned giving to continue leaving a legacy even after her passing. From background to age to profession to motivation, each of our St. Claire Society members is different. And each one is cherished," said Lewis.
Thank you to all the generous individuals and companies that support our organization through charitable giving. Your contributions help us grow and allow us to continue our mission of proclaiming God’s goodness through a healing ministry to the people of Eastern Kentucky. St. Claire Family Medicine Earns National Recognition for Patient-Centered CareSt. Claire HealthCare is pleased to announce that St. Claire Family Medicine Morehead-Downtown, Olive Hill, Sandy Hook, Frenchburg, and Owingsville locations have earned national recognition from the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) Patient-Centered Medical Home Program. NCQA is a private, non-profit organization whose mission is to improve the quality of healthcare and accredits and certifies a wide range of healthcare organizations.
The NCQA Patient-Centered Medical Home is a model of primary care that combines teamwork and information technology to improve care, improve patient’s experience of care and reduce costs. Medical homes foster ongoing partnerships between patients and their providers instead of episodic office visits. Each patient’s care is overseen by a provider-led team that coordinates treatment across the health care system. Research has shown that medical homes can lead to higher quality and lower costs and can improve patient and provider-reported experiences of care.
To earn recognition, the St. Claire Family Medicine had to demonstrate the ability to meet the program’s key elements and embody characteristics of the medical home. NCQA Standards are aligned with the joint principles of the Patient-Centered Medical Home established with the American College of Physicians, the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the American Osteopathic Association.

As you enter St. Claire's cafeteria dining room the week of November 6-13, you will notice a special table; The Missing Man Table, also known as the Fallen Comrade Table. it is a place of honor, in memory of fallen, missing or imprisoned military service-members. The table serves as the focal point of ceremonial remembrance, reminding us we should never forget the brave men and women who answered our nation’s call to duty and served the cause of freedom in a special way. Each element in the display has a special significance.
• The empty chair, they are not here. It represents Americans who were or are missing from each of the services – Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, and Coast Guard – and civilians, all with us in spirit.
• The table, set for one, is small, and symbolizing the frailty of one isolated prisoner, alone against his or her suppressors.
• The tablecloth, is white, symbolic of the purity of their intentions to respond to their country’s call to arms.
• A single red rose in the vase, signifies the blood that many have shed in sacrifice to ensure the freedom of our beloved United States of America. This rose also reminds us of the family and friends of our missing comrades who keep the faith, while awaiting their return.
• A red ribbon (yellow ribbon for Air Force ceremonies) represents the love of our country, which inspired them to answer the nation’s call.
• A Slice of lemon, on the bread plate: represents the bitter fate of the missing.
• Salt, sprinkled on the bread plate, symbolizes of the countless fallen tears of families as they wait.
• An inverted glass, represents the fact that the missing and fallen cannot partake.
• The Bible, represents the strength gained through faith to sustain those lost from our country, founded as one nation under God.
• A lit candle, reminiscent of the light of hope which lives in our hearts to illuminate their way home, away from their
captors, to the open arms of a grateful nation.
The willingness of America’s veterans to sacrifice for our country earns them our lasting gratitude. Let us each remember and never forget their sacrifices. May God forever watch over and protect them as well as their families.
