Dear Parents/Guardians Welcome Back Welcome back to Term Three. I hope you all had an enjoyable time during the break. Welcome to the new families who have joined our community. We trust that your time at St Cecilias is an enjoyable and rewarding experience for all. A special welcome back to Mrs McCormack, Mrs Fittock and Mr Sta Maria, who have all returned from leave. Golden Jubilee Mass A wonderful celebration was held on the weekend to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of St Cecilias Church. After the Mass and blessing of the plaque, a light lunch was held in the school undercover area. Thank you to all school students, parents and staff, who helped in any way. Some of our students were involved in decorating tiles de- picting the names of the priests, who have served at the Church over the last 50 years. These will be displayed near the entrance of the church. BishopsReligious Literacy Assessment (BRLA) Students in Years Three and Five will undertake this assessment on Wednesday 7 August (Year Five) and Thursday 8 August (Year Three). The BRLA is a curriculum- based assessment and focuses on studentsability to recall content about the Catho- lic faith and their knowledge and understanding of Religious Education. CENSUS DAY Friday, August 2 The government funding we receive is determined by the number of students at the school, and unexplained ab-sences can lead to the school receiving fewer funds. Please ensure your child is at school on Friday, August 2, and if they are not, then please notify the school in writing with a valid reason.

Congratulations

• To Mrs Claire Wellbeloved, who has been accepted into the CEWA Talent Identification Program.

• To Mrs Belinda Sibley who is now accredited to run the Rainbow program

Mr Hayward It is with mixed emotions that I wish to announce that Mr Hayward is resigning from St Cecilia’s, effective from Au-gust 30, 2019. He has accepted a position at South Hedland Senior High School. Although we are sad that he is leaving, we are happy that Mr Hayward is provided with an opportunity to further develop his skills and interests.

Out of School Hour Care The application was submitted late in Term Two however, the process can take up to 90 days. We will keep you updated with any further developments.

Smoke-Free Zone A reminder that St Cecilia’s is a smoke-free zone. This means that smoking is not permitted anywhere in the school, including in the car if it is on school property. Thank you for your support in this matter.

BOOK WEEK Book Week is just around the corner, have you got your costume organised?

The theme for Book Week this year is Reading is my secret power.

Our annual Book Week assembly is being held on Thursday 22 August and as always students are invited to dress up either as their favourite book character or in theme related costume.

As it is Book Week we are recognising, we encourage book character costumes rather than movie character cos-tumes.

More information about Book Week events will be coming home soon.

NATIONAL ABORIGINAL AND TORRES STRAIT CHILDREN’S DAY Next Tuesday, we will be celebrating National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Children’s Day (Children’s Day). Children’s Day is celebrated across Australia each year on August 04 but due to the weekend and Public Holiday, we will recognise the day on Tuesday 06 August.

Children’s Day is a time for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families to celebrate the strengths and culture of their children. The day is an opportunity for all Australians to show their support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, as well as learn about the crucial impact that culture, family and community play in the life of every child.

The day will begin with an assembly in the Undercover Area with special guest speaker Julie Dabb who will speak to the students about the significance of Children’s Day. Students will continue to learn about Children’s Day in their classes throughout the day. If you ordered a special Children’s Day bag last term, these will be handed out to students on Tuesday.

PARENTS IN SCHOOL Just a reminder to all parents that if you are doing parent help in classrooms, you must sign the visitor book in the office and collect a Visitor badge before going to the classroom. Children look for the visitor badge on an adult that isn’t a teacher so it is for safety reasons for all children in the school that we ask you to report to the office first. Also, in the event of an emergency, we need to know who is in the school to ensure that everyone is ac-counted for.

A further reminder, if you are coming into the school to drop off a forgotten lunchbox, library bag, homework book, etc, please stop in at the office first to let us know you are on school grounds.

WOOLWORTHS EARN AND LEARN Thank you to everyone for your support of the Earn and Learn program. At the end of last term I submitted over

25000 stickers and at the beginning of this term.

I was able to select a range of items and materials as requested by teachers for use in their classrooms and

learning programs throughout the school.

Mrs Mandy Sheen Assistant Principal

Late in Term Two, Mrs Gould our Canteen Manager met with students from the Year Six class to ask for their input into the canteen menu for Term Three.

The students suggested some amazing food choices and it has been decided to add a new menu item to the canteen menu. From Week Four, on Mondays only you will now be able to or-der “NACHOS”.

You don’t need any special skills to be on the P&F, just a desire to see the school grow. The P&F are responsible for building community and raising funds for school resources. They are an important group of people who organ-ise events and fundraise to provide resources for the school. There are meetings once a month where planning and focusing on events occur. The P&F is integral to the running of the school. A strong P&F ensures we have a strong school.

If you are interested in joining the P&F or know somebody else who may be interested, please contact the P&F via the email or Facebook address below or let our office staff know.

We currently have the position of Vice President vacant.

The next P&F meeting will be held on Monday 19 August at 6.30pm in the Staffroom.
