Baptism: First Saturday of the month at 1:00 PM. Parents

must come to the Rectory with the with child’s original birth

certificate at least one or two months in advance. Instruction is

held on the Monday before the Baptism at 7:00 PM. For more

information please contact the Rectory.

Twenty-Fourth Sunday Ordinary Time

Chapter 15 of Luke is perhaps one of

the most beautiful examples of how God acts

with sinners: He respects, forgives, welcomes

and invites them to a celebration and integrates

them in his family forever. Today’s Gospel con-

tains three very beautiful parables, narratively

and theologically speaking. The Gospel’s summit

is marked by the first verse: “Tax collectors and

sinners were all drawing near to listen to Jesus.”

And the Pharisees and the scribes murmured

among themselves, "This man welcomes sinners

and eats with them." Jesus came to restore his

project of salvation; but this is shocking to the

Pharisees. Mankind appears, in the readings pro-

claimed today, as lost, as moves away from the

parental home. Our God is compassionate and He

is always willing to lend a helping hand. The

Pharisees did not discover the true face of God

who acts for free. Moreover, today Jesus wants to

change our mentality. For the logic of the Phari-

sees, and perhaps also for our logic, sinners must

be marked with the finger; they must be put aside

and despised. However, he "welcomes sinners

and eats with them;" Jesus introduces another

logic into the world. He never considered as

good for the sinner to follow what is wrong; He

never said that the lost sheep is not straying.

What He does, instead of rejecting the sinner, is

to go and get him, and when he finds him, He is

filled with joy; He takes upon himself the burden

of your shoulders, he bandages your wounds,

cares for you and feeds you. This is the heart of

Christ. His love overcomes evil with good, in

order to completely renew the sinner, to get his

mud out of his face and restore his dignity as son

of God. For the Heart of Christ the Redeemer

every man is always recoverable for salvation

and holiness.

Vigésimo Cuarto Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario

El capítulo 15 de Lucas, es quizás uno de los

más bellos exponentes del modo de actuar de Dios con

los pecadores: respeta, perdona, acoge, los invita a una

fiesta y los integra para siempre en su familia. Contie-

ne tres parábolas muy bellas, narrativamente y teológi-

camente hablando. El culmen lo marca el primer ver-

sículo: “Se acercaban a Jesús los publicanos y los pe-

cadores a escucharlo”. Y los fariseos y los letrados

murmuraban entre ellos: “Ese acoge a los pecadores y

come con ellos”. Jesús vino a llamar a todos para res-

taurar aquel proyecto, pero esto resulta escandaloso

para los fariseos. El hombre aparece en la lectura pro-

clamada hoy como lo perdido, lo que se aleja de la

casa paterna porque no ha descubierto el rostro de

Dios como Padre compasivo que ofrece su amor y su

amistad gratuitamente y que está siempre dispuesto a

tender una mano salvadora. Tampoco los piadosos

cumplidores (fariseos) han descubierto el verdadero

rostro del Dios que actúa gratuitamente y movido por

su amorosa compasión. Todos coinciden en la misma

realidad: no conocen realmente a Dios como Padre

que quiere la felicidad de todos. Y Jesús ha recibido la

misión de revelar a todos esta realidad porque todos la

necesitan y así todos quedan al descubierto ante Dios

y todos necesitan de su intervención gratuita para re-

encontrar el verdadero sentido de sus vidas. También

hoy es de Jesús es desconcertante. Para la lógica de los

fariseos –y quizás también para la nuestra–, los peca-

dores han de ser señalados con el dedo, han de ser

puestos aparte y despreciados. Sin embargo, él «acoge

a los pecadores y come con ellos» Jesús introduce en

el mundo otra lógica. Él nunca considera bueno al pe-

cador. Él nunca dice que la oveja descarriada no esté

descarriada. Lo que hace es, en lugar de rechazarla, ir

a buscarla, y cuando la encuentra se llena de alegría, la

carga sobre sus hombros, la venda las heridas, la cui-

da, la alimenta. Así es el corazón de Cristo. Su amor

vence el mal con el bien. Para hasta rehacer por com-

pleto al pecador, hasta sacarle de su fango y devolver-

le la dignidad de hijo de Dios. Para el Corazón Reden-

tor de Cristo, todo hombre es siempre recuperable para

la salvación y la santidad.
