Abraham needed a lot of faith to follow the course God showed him; likewise the Chris- tian needs sound faith in Christ to follow him along the way he proposes. We reach transfiguration only by following the way of the Cross and giving ourselves into God’s hands. The second reading shows us that the faithful and un- conditional love of God is the foundation of our faith. His disciples and ‘’We’’ together have already recog- nized him as the Messiah. Now he announces how he is going to complete his mission. His Passion and Cross do not agree with their idea of the Messiah; their hopes are shattered and they are scandalized. At this difficult moment comes the trans- figuration to strengthen their faith and hope. It helps them to understand that this Jesus who was preparing for death is the true Messiah sent by the Father; he will be put to much suffering and death, but he will over- come all these because God will never abandon him, for ‘’he is my Son, the Beloved; he enjoys my favor. Listen to him.’’ The voice of God enlightens us about the need to listen to and follow Jesus even when his glory does not appear, even when we experience op- position and persecution. Fr Paul

WELCOME TO THE CATHOLIC COMMUNITIES OF

“Abraham-the father of faith” It is easy to see how faith is the main theme of the first reading, though it is more difficult to discover this theme in the gospel. Abraham needed a lot of faith to follow the course God showed him; likewise the Chris-tian needs sound faith in Christ to follow him along the way he proposes. We reach transfiguration only by following the way of the Cross and giving ourselves into God’s hands. The second reading shows us that the faithful and un-conditional love of God is the foundation of our faith. His disciples and ‘’We’’ together have already recog-nized him as the Messiah. Now he announces how he is going to complete his mission. His Passion and Cross do not agree with their idea of the Messiah; their hopes are shattered and they are scandalized. At this difficult moment comes the trans-figuration to strengthen their faith and hope. It helps them to understand that this Jesus who was preparing for death is the true Messiah sent by the Father; he will be put to much suffering and death, but he will over-come all these because God will never abandon him, for ‘’he is my Son, the Beloved; he enjoys my favor. Listen to him.’’ The voice of God enlightens us about the need to listen to and follow Jesus even when his glory does not appear, even when we experience op-position and persecution. Fr Paul

St. Boniface Altar Society News Letter

March, 2015

Fasting and Abstinence Are Required All Catholics 14 years and older must abstain from meat on the Fri-days of Lent, Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. All Catholics between ages 18 and 59 are to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. To fast means to eat one full meal. Two smaller meals may also be taken for good health but together they should not equal a full meal. Eating between meals is not permitted; however, liquids including coffee, milk and fruit juices are allowed.

Thank you to The National Catholic Society of Forester, St. Mary Court 1000, Stayton for Sponsoring the Brews N Brats’ and Silent Auction Fundraiser on Friday, February 13th. The generosity of the sponsor and of those who donated, attended and organized the event are amazing! We are so Blessed! God Bless you all!
