On this Third Sunday of the Year, our second reading comes from Saint Paul in his letter to the Corinthians. He was aware of disagreements within the community of believers. His letter indicates that such divisions are not worthy of holy people. Saint Paul reminds them not only of the importance of Who they were baptized by, but also the reason and purpose of that baptism. They were to be sanctified and holy as one body of God. Their relationship to Jesus and their belief in Him was what mattered - as it with us.

Our future as the Catholic Community of Bradford will depend on how we – as holy people – react to the many changes forthcoming. Some of these changes will seem quite drastic but rest assured much

thought has gone into these decisions. We have not heard the words - merger or partnership - before and no matter who we are, we are afraid of change and the difficulty in dealing with it. Saint Paul, in his letter, reminds us of what is important and that is our faith in Jesus, not the changes.

As you heard from the pulpit last weekend, I have been named Pastor of the Catholic Community of Bradford. I will have the assistance of a Senior Associate, Father Stanley Swacha. Both of us are looking forward to strengthening and expanding the vibrant faith that already exists in our parishes. As a family, we will build upon our strengths and work together to expand our Catholic identity. In the bulletin, you will find the new Mass schedule that will begin on Monday, February 13, 2017. These changes have been made based on directives from the Diocese and much contemplation. It is an exciting time for all of us as we begin to work together.

All of us grew up identifying with one particular parish and the sense of belonging that it gave us. Now many will go through a grieving process of letting go and forging ahead, led by the Holy Spirit. We must look at this as a transition process, taking place over time. No one wants to make hasty decisions. While some changes will be immediate due to their nature, that doesn’t mean they won’t be adjusted in the future. Mistakes will also be made during the process and resolved after due consideration. As the Mass schedule changes for all the parishes in February, some will feel that they have “won” and others will feel that they have “lost”. But what we have to remember is that we are one holy Church working together for the good of Jesus. We are called by God, called to be holy. So let us pray that the Holy Spirit will guide us in this Faith Journey.

God Bless, Fr. Ray

WORD OF LIFEWORD OF LIFEWORD OF LIFEWORD OF LIFE This week in Washington, DC we will have the PRO-LIFE March. We will witness thousands of people attending the event; listening to the many speeches defending life. But, what will happen the next week? Let us not focus on this as a one week or one day event, but rather a lifetime event. You will hear people say that the church is out of step with the world, but in reality the world is out of step with the church. Life is sacred from conception to natural death.

FAMILY LIFEFAMILY LIFEFAMILY LIFEFAMILY LIFE When Jesus called his disciples, they came “immediately.” Parents wish their children would respond as quickly, but they don’t. Children grow slowly into responsibility. It is a process like walking, not done “immediately”, but in small steps. Parenting demands patient encouragement.

Due to the parish restructuring changes there will no longer be

Sunday evening masses at University of Pittsburgh at

Bradford Wick Chapel.
