RUMMAGE SALE NEWS… Our storage pod is now on site for collection of

your rummage sale donations. The pod is located next to the school gym and will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. daily.

Donations should be clean and in good condition. Please, NO TVs or old computer equipment.

If you have large items for donation, we ask that you wait until after June 18th and drop them off directly in the school gym.

NOTES FROM THE NURSES… With Spring comes warm weather, time outdoors,

and the occasional insect bite. The stings of bees, wasps and hornets are painful, but, they can be life-threatening for anyone who has a severe allergic reaction. Called anaphylaxis, it includes chest pain, swelling of face or mouth and trouble swallowing or breathing. Call 911

if someone around you is having these problems after being bitten. Mosquito bites hurt less, but, still can cause problems. Illnesses such as West Nile virus can be passed through mosquito bites.

Follow these safety measures to protect yourself from bites and stings:

�� do not provoke insects or disturb their hives �� use inspect repellent when outside �� wear long sleeves, long pants, shoes and socks �� stay indoors at dusk and dawn �� fix window and door screens �� get rid of standing water �� keep grass and weeds cut short If you do get stung, follow these tips: Get rid of the

stinger by scraping across it with a straight edge object (a credit card works), wash the site with soap and water apply ice for 10 minutes, remove for 10 minutes, then, repeat. Apply cream that reduces itching or take an antihistamine (like Benadryl). Watch for signs of infection (such as increasing redness, swelling or pain). Source: Living Healthy, Spring 2011

MUSIC TO THE EARS… The sound system in the church is used for every

Mass, concert, rehearsal, wedding and funeral, as well as other events throughout the year. It is something the parishioner does not ever see, but, relies upon every time they enter church.

The current sound system in the church was installed in 2005. The equipment is outdated and failing. We had a power surge in the church last Spring that damaged some equipment beyond repair and likely did more damage not yet detected. Since then, other components are “buzzing” and are near failure.

The new proposed system will bring us into the digital age with recording capability far beyond a tape recorder, as we currently have. We will also have an upgraded speaker system that will improve the overall sound coverage in the church. We plan on reusing the speakers that are currently in the church as well as the mixer in the choir area and social hall.

Your participation in the upcoming We Care Raffle will help us obtain a new and improved system and we look forward to enjoying this new investment as we worship together moving into the future.

ST. WILLIAM SUMMER CARD PARTY… The Rosary Altar Society of St. William Parish,

Walled Lake, is holding its Annual Summer Card Party and luncheon on Wed., June 13th, in the Activity Center at 12:00 noon.

The cost is $15.00 for the luncheon and there are raffle tickets for cash prizes and gifts. There are also door prizes included with your luncheon ticket.

The doors open at 11:00 a.m. and the lunch starts at noon. The party runs until 4:00 p.m. Please contact Shirley Dertinger at 248-640-1177 with any questions.

FOOD COLLECTION, JUNE 9TH & 10TH…

Thanks to all those who participated in the hygiene collection for the Catholic Community Response Team (CCRT) in April. They replenished their shelves and are

very grateful. Our monthly food collection for Open Door is TWO WEEKS away, June 9th & June 10th. Since we had a hygiene collection for CCRT last month, I am sure they missed our

monthly donation. So, please be generous, if possible. The special needs for this month are: crackers,

peanut butter, jelly, tuna fish, cereal, pancake mix, syrup, ravioli, ramen noodles and beef-a-roni. You may drop your donation in the bin located in the church vestibule. Thank you for helping those in need.

HEAVENLY FATHER, On this Memorial Day, we pray for those who

courageously laid down their lives for the cause of freedom. May the example of their sacrifice inspire in us the selfless love of your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ.

Bless the families of our fallen troops, and fill their homes and their lives with your strength and peace. We pray through Christ our Lord. Amen.

JIM’S GEMS… God is truly working a wonder among His people

in the “last days.” In 1985, I spent five days with over 700 Catholic priests and deacons and some Episcopalian priests on a charismatic conference at the Franciscan University of Steubenville.

It was a wonder, indeed, to behold so many church leaders on the North American continent (we were mostly from the States and Canada) repenting and confessing our sins and embracing Jesus as our very own Lord and Savior, as if for the first time in our lives.

Many of us priests are just as caught up in our good and/or bad deeds as our people. We think that we must earn or merit heaven. We’ve never quite accepted the truth that Jesus Christ has already won the crown for us. Hence, as we grow older in the ministry, a sense of desperation easily can overwhelm us. The priest looks back upon his life wondering, “What have I really done for Jesus after all is said and done?” Of course, that’s the wrong question to be asking in the first place. The question should always be, “Do I have the faintest idea what He has done for me?”

Pope John Paul II retreat master, Fr. Raniero Cantalamessa, was one of the principal conference speakers. A very holy man, a scholar and a most orthodox teacher, Fr. Raniero himself was “baptized in the Holy Spirit” just eight years prior when he first visited the United States.

He is convinced that many of us priests are simply not at all sure that God has a personal love for us. Just like so many others, we travel through life, feeling guilty about our sins, struggling with personality deficiencies, failing to live up to our own life’s goals, much less to the expectations others have of us. In short, we do not ourselves feel worthy of the Good News message that we are preaching to others.

The hook in all of this is that we cannot preach with conviction what we do not accept for ourselves, namely, that God loves me so much that He gave up His only Son on my behalf.

And you know what God wants us to do with the good works of our life? Put them behind us, while we keep our sins ever before us, nailed to the cross with Jesus. The more we can do this, the more God does a turn-about, He places our sins behind Him and our good works before His face.

It’s almost unbelievable; but it’s nonetheless true. Please pray for your priests, that we may be the first to accept the Good News of salvation, so that we might help you to soon turn this world around for Jesus Christ. He is coming, you know, “soon and very soon.”

JIM’S JOKES…

Dear Grand-daughter, The other day I went up to our local Christian book

store and saw a “Honk if you love Jesus” bumper sticker ..I was feeling particularly sassy that day because I had just come from a thrilling choir performance, followed by a thunderous prayer meeting. So, I bought the sticker and put it on my bumper. Boy, am I glad I did; what an uplifting experience that followed.

I was stopped at a red light at a busy intersection, just lost in thought about the Lord and how good He is, and I didn’t notice that the light had changed. It is a good thing someone else loves Jesus because if he hadn’t honked, I’d never have noticed. I found that lots of people love Jesus!

While I was sitting there, the guy behind started honking like crazy, and, then, he leaned out of his window and screamed, “For the love of God!” “Go! Go! Go! Jesus Christ, GO!” What an exuberant cheerleader he was for Jesus! Everyone started honking! I just leaned out my window and started waving and smiling at all those loving people. I even honked my horn a few times to share in the love!

There must have been a man from Florida back there because I heard him yelling something about a sunny beach. I saw another guy waving in a funny way with only his middle finger stuck up in the air. I asked my young teenage grandson in the back seat what that meant. He said it was probably a Hawaiian good luck sign or something. Well, I have never met anyone from Hawaii, so I leaned out the window and gave him the good luck sign right back. My grandson burst out laughing. Why even he was enjoying this religious experience!!

A couple of the people were so caught up in the joy of the moment that they got out of their cars and started walking towards me. I bet they wanted to pray or ask what church I attended, but, this is when I noticed the light had changed.

So, grinning, I waved at all my brothers and sisters, and drove on through the intersection.

I noticed that I was the only car that got through the intersection before the light changed again and felt kind of sad that I had to leave them after all the love we had shared. So I slowed the car down, leaned out the window and gave them all the Hawaiian good luck sign one last time as I drove away. Praise the Lord for such wonderful folks!! Will write again soon.
