Pastor’s Note

September 2nd, 2018 Twenty-second Sunday in

Ordinary Time Actions Speak Louder than

Words! Today celebrate the Twenty Second Sunday in Ordinary Time. The readings focus on doing more than simply hearing God’s laws, we are called to act on them in love. In the first reading from the Book of Deuteronomy, we read how Moses reminds the people to respect the word of God. We are responsible for our actions. In the Gospel from St. Mark, Jesus criticizes the Phari-sees and the Scribes. He points out their hypocrisy between what is in their heart and their strict adher-ence to the law. They look holy and pious on the out-side but on the inside they are full of rage, jealousy and hatred. Let us do more than simply hear God’s laws; we are called to act on them in love. Let us not “sweat the small stuff.” Let us focus on the heart of our reli-gion; Love of God, Love of Neighbor. As we celebrate this Labor Day weekend, let us be thankful for the blessing gifts of labor God has given us. Please join us for Mass this Monday, at 9am.

Actions Speak Louder than Words!

Parish and School Finances A number of people have asked where does their offer-tory collection go? Does it go to the Diocese or anoth-er use? Who oversees the spending? To be transpar-ent with our parish and school families, the Finance Council will be hosting two evenings: Monday, Sep-tember 24 at 7pm in Church for a “State of the Par-ish Address” and Monday, October 1st at 7pm in Church for a “State of the School Address.” Please join us for one or both Information meetings to get your questions answered and hear the correct information from the true sources. Looking Ahead….. St. Bede Parish Picnic and Ice Cream Social with Irish Music on the campus grounds will be held on Sunday, September 23 from 2 to 5pm. 4th Annual Golf Outing, Saturday, September 29th at the Westwood Golf Club. Catholic Community of the East End of Pittsburgh Harvest Dinner- Sunday, October 14, at 4pm, at the Four Seasons Center- Ski Lodge in Boyce Park. No charge to attend. More information will follow in the next few weeks.

New Mass Schedule The Diocese will release the new Mass schedule for our Parish Grouping next weekend. Since Fr. Taylor and I are the clergy assigned, we will have two daily Masses Monday thru Friday, one Saturday Morning, and six for the weekend (two Saturday evening and four on Sunday) between all three parishes. Since we have three parishes with four church buildings currently in use, we will be using three church buildings for the Interim Mass schedule. Every parish will be undergoing changes with the Mass schedule, so please be patient during this transition period. School Bells Our combined CCEEP Religious Education Program kicked off last Sunday with 150 students. We welcome Teresa Meynor as our new Religious Education Coor-dinator! St. Bede School officially opened this past Monday with 251 students! It was a great first week! Welcome all the new and returning students, our faculty and staff. Let’s have a great year! Vacation 2018 Please note that I will be heading on my annual vaca-tion to the Atlantic Coast this week September 6-16. Fr. James and Fr. Augustine will be doing the Daily and Sunday Masses. Please hold any phone calls, messages, and e-mails while I am away. I will return to the office, Monday, September 17. *This Sunday’s Second Collection is for the Bishop’s Education Fund to help families receive scholarships for Catholic Education. Please be as generous as pos-sible. * Thank you Thank you to all who gave generously for the Annual Diocesan Appeal for Parish Missions. A total of $3, 535 was collected for the Diocese of Moshi. Thank you to the following parishioners who recently helped move furniture out of the rectory to be donated to Habitat for Humanity: Rachel Dzombak, Joe McMahon, Carolyn Menard, Susan Schwochau, Ad-am Sipe, and Kathy Stec. Thank you to the 100 volunteers who participated in the Back to School Clean Up Day last Saturday. We had a lot of great hands to help spread mulch, weed the garden, and wash the cafeteria chairs. TWENTY-SECOND SUNDAY in ORDINARY TIME Labor Day weekend is traditionally a time to put sum-mer away and begin a new school year. Regardless of one’s work or profession, everyone operates around a school schedule! With that in mind, we should pay at-tention to the lessons Jesus and the evangelists teach us. James is clear when he says it is not enough to listen to God’s word. We must put it into action! “Be doers of the word and not hearers only.” In other words, put faith into action!!! Winners will receive checks by mail.
