TRUE BLINDNESS Bartimaeus caused a stir. Normally he sat by the side of the road being a “good blind beggar.” But one day Jesus passed nearby. Bartimaeus jumped up and called out to Jesus. We can imagine him turning toward the direction of the commotion and noise. Bartimaeus probably had his arms outstretched as he shouted out to the son of David. The people who knew him were embarrassed by his outburst. They tried to hush him up and get him to sit back down by the roadside. Their actions spoke volumes: “Bartimaeus, you’re not fit for Jesus.” But it was okay for them and other “sighted” people to follow Jesus. In today’s readings, we learn that true blindness is not a condition of our eyes but of our hearts.

MASSES AT THE PARISH CENTER!

Please join us in reciting the Rosary every morning (Monday through Saturday) at 7:35 am before daily Mass. It is a beautiful and spiritual way to start your day.

Every day following weekday Mass, we invite

you to join us for the Chaplet of Divine Mercy.

It starts about five minutes after Mass

(around 8:35 am). It can be the best fifteen minutes

of the day. If you cannot join us, perhaps you can join the Divine Mercy on EWTN television channel at noon.

DAILY ROSARY/DIVINE MERCY

Take home some fun in God’s Word, grab a copy of “The Kids’ Bulletin” at the exits of the Church after Mass!

Financial Notes & Highlights

Due to responsible stewardship, standard operating costs remained stable. With an increase

in offertory income of approximately 19% and gifts related to the 75th Anniversary, the

Parish was able to invest in infrastructure repairs and complete deferred maintenance.

Approximately $50,000 was invested to repair the Parish Hall roof and repairs were also

made to rental properties. These homes now have new tenants, increasing Parish income

by over 20%. Restricted Income was comprised mostly of one-time donations related to

St. Barnabas’ 75th Anniversary.

The balance sheet reflects $190,000 in operating cash. There are no short term liabilities;

however, the unfunded Accumulated Archdiocesan Assessment of $718,000 is reflected as

a long term liability and an off-set to equity. The Accumulated Assessment reflects multiple

years of payments owed to the Archdiocese to pay for Parish insurance, Parish pensions,

and Archdiocesan overhead.

During the past fiscal year, the gap between what was owed and what was paid to the

Archdiocesan Assessment was approximately $81,000. After deducting this amount, the

net income for the year was $17,000. We hope next year continues this increased

generation of income and stabilization of expenses. We, the Priests, Finance Council, and

the Pastoral Council, are deeply grateful for your love and generosity.

ST BRENDAN - Historical

It is fitting that this St. Brendan window, one of the early saints of Ireland, was dedicated to people from Ireland, Timothy and Margaret Foley. Timothy Foley and Margaret Egan Foley were the parents of Fr. Thomas J. Foley, the first pastor of St. Barnabas church. Fr. Foley was ordained in Ireland in 1925 and come to the United States shortly thereafter. He became Pastor in October 1936 and served the parish for many years until his death in 1968. There is no record of his parents ever coming to the United

States. St. Brendan's window is in the front if the church about the south exit.

Monday, November 23, 2015 ST. CORNELIUS CATHOLIC CHURCH 5500 E. Wardlow Rd., Long Beach, 7:30 PM

Celebrant: Fr. George Reynolds Fr. George is the Associate Pastor here at St. Barnabas Church. He is a charismatic priest and has the gift of healing. Fr. George was once used by the Lord to minister to ( Sandra), a lady suffering for 20 years from “agoraphobia” or fear of outside spaces. Fr. George prayed over Sandra as well as each member of her family, continuing to bless and anoint each room of her house. The Healing power of the Spirit helped Sandra recover from her fears of life and she now ventures out of her house to walk around her neighborhood. Fr. George was a convert from the Jehovah Witness Religion. He is a wonderful retreat master and is an SCRC Speaker at this year’s convention in Anaheim. Fr. George is a member of the Confraternity of Priests of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Mary and Joseph, a ministry engaged in the evangelization process. Come and experience the healing power of the Holy Spirit.

“If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.” -Matthew 21:22

Local Archdiocese News

A middle-aged laywoman has a heart attack and is taken to the hospital. While on the operating table she has a near-death experience in which she sees God. She asks him if this is the end of her life. God tells her no, she has another 40 years to live. After she recovers, she's so upbeat that she stays in the hospital and has a face-lift, liposuction, breast augmentation and a tummy tuck. She has a beautician come in to change her hair color and style. As long she's got another 40 years to live, she figures she might as well make the most of it. The woman walks out the front door of the hospital after the last operation and is run over by an ambulance. In front of God, she wails, “I thought you said I had another 40 years?” God replies, “Sorry, I didn't recognize you.” THE BOOK OF CATHOLIC JOKES, by Deacon Tom Sheridan published by
