BE A ROCK Peter’s history as a follower or friend of Jesus is a bit spotty. It might be natural to wonder if Jesus, in giving him the keys to the kingdom, didn’t feel a bit like a parent giving a teenager the keys to the family car. But it was at the moment when God’s power and presence broke through everything else to raise up Peter’s great profession of faith in Christ as Messiah that Jesus chose to establish the bond between the loving, forgiving mercy of heaven and our vocation to be witnesses of that love, mercy, and forgiveness on earth. Like any parent, Jesus no doubt foresaw the failings, the irresponsible maneuvers or impaired senses, the collisions that the church would be headed for. But, most importantly, he also saw us at that moment as God prefers to see us: capable of manifesting great faith, with a willingness to remain at the feet of Christ to understand what it truly means to be Messiah and Christ. As the letter to the Romans points out to us today, we have not known the mind or the wisdom of God, but God knows us and still chooses to manifest the reign of justice, joy, beauty, and peace through us. Let this be our vocation. Let us always strive to be solid ground on which the church of Jesus Christ can be founded and on which it can continue to be built. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

Parish Ministries LABOR DAY HOLIDAY In observance of Labor Day, the Parish Office & School will be closed on Monday, September 4, 2017. Normal business hours will resume on the following day. ========================================= BACK TO SCHOOL Please extend a warm welcome and prayers to our St. Barnabas Students, Teachers and their families as they begin the new school year! Please drive cautiously. ========================================= RELIGIOUS EDUCATION CLASSES Registration for Religious Education has begun. Please visit the Religious Ed. Office located upstairs of the Parish Center in the afternoons from 3:30pm-8:30pm. They will also be at the Hall Terrace every Sunday after the Masses from 9am-2:30pm, until Sept. 3rd. The Children's Choir begins singing for the school year at 9am on the second Sunday of each month from Sept 2017 through June 2018. We'll look forward to seeing you upon our return.

We are now collecting donations of any usable small, handy household appliances, clothes, toys, sports memorabilia, books, music instruments, gift certificates, or anything of value for our annual rummage sale. The Knights will be in the parking lot following Mass on Sundays to receive your donations. Furniture and other heavy items will not be accepted. Year of the Rosary: Jan. 1-Dec. 31 We invite all St. Barnabas Parishioners to place our focus on one of the most beautiful gifts of our faith, the Rosary. We will focus on strengthening our worship and prayer activities with spiritual talks and events throughout 2017. ========================================= ROSARY LEADERS NEEDED Already a tradition in our daily masses, we are seeking individuals and families to guide the Rosary 25-minutes before all Masses on weekends. We provide you with a script of the prayers to help you lead. The St. Barnabas Parish Festival was revived three shor t years ago and has grown its attendance to more than 2,000 over the day and a half celebration. This year we once again will celebrate with our parish members, their families, friends and the outside community and businesses it serves. Funds raised during this celebration go to support St. Barnabas Parish programs and maintenance, serving every demographic from ages 4 to 104.
