Year of Mercy

A Holy Door (Latin: Porta Sancta) traditionally refers to an entrance portal located within the Papal Major Basilicas in Rome. The doors are normally sealed by mortar and cement from the inside so that they cannot be opened. They are ceremoniously opened during Jubilee years designated by the Pope.

ATTENDANCE MATTERS AT ST AUGUSTINE’S

In our continued effort to improve attendance, Education Welfare Officers will be working closely with us in the coming months. Parents of pupils whose level of attendance is a concern will be invited into school to discuss how we can support them in ensuring that their children are in school every day. Regular attendance is vital if all pupils are to achieve their full potential.

ATTENDANCE – 88.81%

FRED IS THE BEST! You have made a fantastic start in your new groups. Well done, everyone! Reception Class children are also learning so many new sounds and letter shapes. Remember to practise every night with your parents.

THE WEDNESDAY WORD

Special word of the week is “FAITHFULNESS”

“Be faithful in small things because it is in them that your strength lies. I do not pray for success, I ask for faithfulness.”

St Teresa of Calcutta

SCHOOL NEWS • Our visitor from the Religious Education Department last Friday was delighted with the children, their work

and their ability to explain how important their religion is to them. Well done, everyone! • Thank you for supporting our Remembrance Assembly today. This was such a thoughtful and prayerful occasion

as the children prayed for all those whose lives have been affected by war throughout the world. • Our PTA Christmas Raffle will be starting soon. Tickets are at the usual price of 10p each/5 for 50p/£2.50

for the set. Donations of prizes are more than welcome. • Now that the weather has grown colder, teachers/coaches may ask children to bring in a pair of tracksuit

bottoms for outdoor Physical Education sessions. • May we remind you that all children should have their PE kit in school every day. This should be kept in a

named drawstring bag and all items should also be clearly named. It can be taken home on Friday to be washed. • All children also need a named water bottle to be kept in their class box. This will be rinsed and re-filled every

day by class prefects. Again, it should be taken home on Friday to be cleaned. • Thank you for purchasing a school reading bag for your child. Our stock has almost gone and the new bags will

cost slightly more than the current ones. Make sure you buy your bag before the price rise! • Please note that stylised haircuts are not permitted in school. We would appreciate your respect of this

requirement. Thank you. • We have two new parent governors: Mrs Paula Ebanks and Mr John Shovlin.
