Dear Community of St. Augustine,

In “Word of Truth”, the letter that our Bishop John Noonan wrote last month, he made reference to the sad news of the sexual scandals which had rocked our Church again and assured, explaining them, that our Diocese has implemented the proper measures to maintain a safe environment for our families.

Meditating on this weekend’s Scripture readings and on Jesus’ words against those who cause the most vulnerable to sin, brought to my mind the victims of such abuses, as well as their families and our entire Church. The Church, as the mystical body of Christ, is suffering, because when one member of the body suffers, the rest suffer a swell. I know there is great pain, there are many questions, a lot of resentment and frustration, but above it all I trust the Lord, His infinite mercy and divine justice.

We should turn our hearts to the “Good Shepherd”, the “Just Judge”, the “Divine Mercy”, the “King of Kings” and “Lord of Lords”, and repenting for our sins, ask Him to heal our Church. Ask Him to touch us and to guide us all, Pope Francis, all the Bishops, priests, deacons and religious men and women in the entire world, to be a faithful reflection of the Love of God. To touch you, all the faithful, “the living stones of the Church”, to be anchored to the Cornerstone of this building – Jesus.

Bishop Noonan has asked us to join him in prayer, in solidarity with all who had been affected by the abuses of the clergy. Our parish will have Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament for 24 hours on Friday and Saturday, October 5th

and 6th. I invite you to offer this prayer journey for this special intention. I hope you can come to pray in front of the Blessed Sacrament and ask Him to continue to pour His blessings and to heal His Church.

May God bless you abundantly!

How wonderful it is to serve the Lord! We are having an Altar Server training on Saturday, October 6th at 11:00am in the Church. This training is open for boys and girls who have already received First Communion. Thank you for your commitment to this great and enjoyable opportunity!
