Pick up your family’s CRS Rice Bowl by any of the Church entrances, and don’t forget to download the CRS Rice Bowl app! May these 40 days better prepare us to encounter ourselves, our
neighbors and our God.

Parish Penance Services St. Augustine’s parish penance service will be March 22nd. Area church services: March 13– Sorrowful Mother, Wheatfield;
March 14– St. Cecilia, Demotte; March 15– Sacred Heart, Remington; March 21– St. Augusta,
Lake Village; March 27– Sacred Heart, Fowler
The penitential nature of Lent marks an opportune time to celebrate the
Sacrament of Reconciliation. In Lent, our prayer is a prayer of repentance for our sins, a prayer that we may come back to God where we have strayed away from him, a prayer of conversion. Join us in preparation for Easter at the parish penance
service on March 22nd.
Herman Nagel Server Award In honor of Herman Nagel, who embodied the meaning of serving for our parish, an award was established to recognize servers who
continued to faithfully volunteer through their high school years. The goal was to encourage the youth of our parish to be active members of the mass as young adults and wish them well
as they continue on their faith journey. This year we are on track to honor 6 seniors who have served over a combined 130
masses for our parish in high school alone. If you would like to contribute to the scholarship fund, please give your donation to the church office, Marvin Nagel,
Marty Park, or Cheryl Hillan.
Stations of the Cross
Every Thursday at 8:30am St. Augustine will be offering the Stations of the Cross. St. Augustine youth will once
again offer the Living Stations of the Cross on April 12th. Share in Jesus’ journey as we repent this Lenten season.
The Catholic Moment is one way our parish maintains contact
with all our Catholic households. Your $20 pays the cost of
providing the paper to each home. Thanks!

A Note From Your Parish Nurse: Warning Signs of a Heart Attack
Don't wait to get help if you experience any of these heart attack warning signs. Although some heart attacks are sudden and intense, most start slowly, with mild pain or discomfort. Pay attention to
your body - and CALL 911 if you feel any: -Chest discomfort. Most heart attacks involve discomfort in the center of the chest that lasts more than a few minutes, or that goes away and comes back. It can feel like uncomfortable pressure, squeezing, fullness or pain. -Discomfort in other areas of the upper body. Symptoms can include pain or discomfort in one or both arms, the back, neck, jaw or stomach. -Shortness of breath with or without chest discomfort. -Other signs may include breaking out in a cold sweat, nausea or lightheadedness. As with men, women's most common heart attack symptom is chest pain or discomfort. But women are somewhat more likely than men to experience some of the other common symptoms, particularly shortness of breath, nausea/vomiting, & back/jaw pain. Learn the signs, but remember this: Even if you're not sure it's a heart attack, have it checked out. Minutes matter! Fast action can save lives - maybe your own. Don't wait - call 911.
If you have any questions, please contact Jocelyn Ventrello, RN, Parish Nurse.

Join our Parish Family! Are you a registered parishioner?
Do not take for granted that you are registered in the Parish just because you
attend Mass or your relatives are members. It could be quite embarrassing to us, you and your family when someone
wants to make wedding plans, have a baby baptized, attend Faith Formation, or
if you are asked to be a Sponsor for Baptism or confirmation requiring a note of Catholicity from us. If we have no record of membership, we cannot provide these services for you. Contact us today! Call
219-866-5351 or email us at [email protected]
Evangelization Committee Saint Augustine formed an Evangelization Committee
this past year. They have been responsible for organizing many events and activities throughout the
year. There are many subcommittees that have evolved such as the Communications/Media Group, the
Education/Faith Learning Group, Works of Mercy Group, etc. If you have an interest in learning more about the different avenues of this committee or to get involved, contact
Doug Nagel (866-2128) or Cathy Hanna (866-3721).
Won’t you join us for an hour of prayer? Every Thursday, following morning Mass,
parishioners join together in prayer. Won’t you take an hour of your week to pray for peace in our world.
Through God all things are possible. We look forward to seeing you!
End of the Year Contribution Statements If you would like a year-end contribution statement, please contact
the church office at 866-5351 or email [email protected] with your request. They can then be picked up from the
office, mailed to your home, or emailed.

Backpack Program For the past two school years, the Rensselaer Area Ministerial Association (RAMA) has partnered with Food Finders Food Bank, Inc. for the greater Rensselaer Community. “What We Do– The BackPack Program is designed to meet the needs of hungry children at times when other resources are not available, especially on weekends. By providing
nutritious, kid-friendly food on Friday during the school year, our BackPack Program makes sure there’s food on the table when kids are home over the weekend. Qualified elementary school students are selected by teachers and administrators and sent home every Friday with a canvas bag filled with food. Packing partners fill the bags each week. Bags are discreetly distributed to children on the last day before a weekend or holiday break.” The BackPack Program purchases food from Food Finders Food Bank, Inc. In Lafayette, IN. The Rensselaer program has received grants and private donations to help fund this program. Volunteers from St. Augustine Parish have packed bags once per month. The 3rd Thursday of the month is our designated week to pack. If interested in assisting our parish group in being a packing partner, please call Dianne Hollerman at 866-0037 or Pama Schreeg at 866-4388 for more information.
A Card to Show We Care! Did you know that St. Augustine has an
ongoing card ministry? Periodically, greeting cards are sent out to those in our
community/parish who might need a little cheer or support. If you know of someone who would benefit from a personal note from our
parish family, please contact Phyllis Mingear at 866-3283.
Manual Wheelchair Donation A manual wheelchair has been donated to our church for
use by anyone physically challenged who would appreciate easy transportation from their car to the lift. Thank you to the individual , who would like to remain anonymous, that
donated the chair. If you know of someone who would benefit from using the chair, please contact the church
office. Likewise, if anyone would like to be instructed on how to use the handicap lift, please call the office at 866-5351 or email [email protected]. Thank you!
Looking for a Good Book? Saint Augustine parish has compiled a mini-
library of religious and spiritually uplifting books. These books can be borrowed from the large cabinet in the church basement (next to the
television). Simply sign the book out using the notebook located next to the cabinet. We will continue to grow our
library with new releases from popular authors. There are a few audio books available for check-out also.
THANK YOU The advertisements that appear in this bulletin completely defray
all publishing costs which the church would otherwise incur. Please patronize the sponsors on the back of this bulletin and thank them
for their kind generosity.
