Fraud alert: Please ignore any texts or emails you receive saying that Fr. Chris, Fr. Tim, or any staff is asking you to send gift cards for money. This is a scam.

On September 21, 2019 our Student Ambassadors and School Families participated in the International Coastal Clean-up! This event augmented our understanding of the environmental stewardship challenges we are facing in protecting God's creation in our own community by collaborating globally!

Saint Vincent de Paul will be doing our monthly homeless outreach on 10/20. We are in need of donations for hygiene items, new socks/under clothes for men/women and new/gently used blankets/winter clothing. We will be collecting donations on 10/20 from 9:30 to 12pm in the parish hall. If any questions or if you would like to be part of the outreach please email us at [email protected] or call us at (424) 209-2050. Blessings!

My brothers and sisters in Christ: We pray together that we be strengthened in the resolve to protect all children from abuse of any kind. You will notice posters around the parish and school that reflect our promise to protect children. Fifteen years ago, the United States Catholic Conference of Bishops established the Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People. Since then, the Archdiocese of Los Angeles has effectively implemented the Charter by providing educa-tion and tools to help protect children and young people from child sexual abuse and other threats to their safety.

Here at St. Augustine, we are committed to protecting God’s children and have put into action VIRTUS, an awareness program sponsored by the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, which assists and facilitates the Church and the diocesan schools in being a safe haven for children. The Protecting God’s Children program educates and trains adults (clergy, religious, teachers, staff, volunteers, and parents) about the dangers of abuse, the warning signs of abuse, the ways to prevent abuse, the methods of proper-ly reporting suspicions of abuse, and responding to allega-tions of abuse.

We take seriously our duty to create and maintain safe environments and are committed to ensuring the safety of children, youth, and vulnerable adults. We cannot do this alone however, and so we ask all parents and volun-teers to help us fulfill this responsibility. Yes, we are in God’s house, but we are also in the midst of an urban environment, where we cannot control all the elements. We leave our doors open to all God’s children, but that also means our doors are open to those who may have other motives to be here. And so, we need the help of all our parents and volunteers at the parish. Parents, please make sure that your children, even teenagers, are not left unsupervised at any time, whether going to the restroom, or even going to the parking lot to get something from the car. We ask all members of our community to be vigi-lant about what’s happening around them, and if you no-tice something suspicious, we ask that you let one of our staff, including ushers, know.

Over the coming months, we will be addressing overall security and safety issues around our parish campus, espe-cially given recent school-related violence. We will initiate various mechanisms to improve safety around the parish and school, but even with these changes, we need to come together as a community and look out for each oth-er, so that all of us, especially our children, can be kept safe.

Thank you for your support of our efforts to improve the safety of our environment.

Blessings,

Fr. Christopher Fagan,

Pastor, St Augustine Parish.

Bendiciones,

P. Christopher Fagan ,

Párroco de San Agustín.
