*** Social Justice News ***

Social Justice Thought for the Week:

Zacchaeus is called to climb down from the tree and join (or re-join) the rest of humanity. Being up a tree can be more comfortable as we watch the world go by. But what a difference it would make if we could see each person and living thing through the lens of God’s love - whether it be neglected people living with mental illness or disability, those innocent and vulnerable people detained in off-shore detention centres; children living in poverty; the homeless; the aged who lack proper services; workers laid off as executives accrue higher salaries; and the earth suffering the effects of our heavy footprint. We are called to come down and be in solidarity with our vulnerable brothers and sisters – all in need of our support and our advocacy to change the unjust structures in our society. Jesus is calling us to come down to the dusty street; to come down and get involved where we can.

On 9 November, you are invited to the Caritas initiative, Women for the World, in the Botanic Gardens (see flyer in foyer); then on 17 November, once again bake those delicious slices, muffins or biscuits for Rosie’s as we observe World Day of the Poor. That will wind up our activities for this year as the group takes a breather in December and January; but do think about joining us from February next year – first Wednesday of each month, 5.00 pm, in the parish centre. All welcomed with open arms!

From The Diocesan Social Justice Commission: David Tutty (Executive Officer, Social Justice Commission) is writing a regular blog on the Social Justice Commission's website (www.socialjusticetoowoomba.com ) called "Living Justly". Check the website for his latest article.

Laurie Reedy Collection: The next collection for the fund, which supports refugees and needy families in our local area, will be held Nov 16/17.
